A message from FAIRFAX COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

March 19, 2015

We are pleased to announce that the new Bell Schedules for 2015-2016 school year are now available on the FCPS website. Principals will be notifying their school communities today and tomorrow of their school start times for next year. There is additional information on the FCPS website and you are strongly encouraged to contact your principal should you have questions about the new bell schedule. We hope to continue to refine and improve our school start times in the years ahead.

The new bell schedules provide high schools a later start time while standardizing the length of the school day. High schools will begin at 8:10 a.m.; secondary schools (including the middle school students who attend secondary schools) will begin at 8:00 a.m. All middle schools will begin at 7:30 a.m. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology will begin at 8:40 a.m.

The elementary school start time window has not changed. Most elementary schools will start the same time as the previous school year or change only by 5 or 10 minutes. There are 8 elementary schools with a start time change of more than 10 minutes and these schools all start at 8:30 a.m. or 8:35 a.m.

It is our primary goal to ensure that this important change is positive for all affected – our students, our families and our employees. We thank you for your continuing support and consideration as we prepare for a smooth and successful start to the 2015-2016 school year.

Sincerely,

Karen K. Garza, Ph.D.

Superintendent of Schools

The answer to your question also explains why you didn't get in at TJ.

Maybe because some students are bused in to TJ from neighboring school districts?

Yes, that is the offical explanation. The real reason is that many TJ students are from Vienna and have really nice mattresses.

They all have MSG hangovers so they get to sleep in.
