My brother was a FCFD firefighter back in the 70's. After years of training, he got a call on his VERY first shift for a motorcycle crash out on the Beltway near the Van Dorn exit. It was night time so they could see the bike burning in the woods but, they couldn't find the rider.

So, they fanned out and my brother was the one who found him...1,500 feet from the crash site. He went to pull the helmet off...and the rider's head came off his shoulders.

I'm pretty sure nowadays, they mobilize these guys and then cut the helmet off later...

A Medical examiner I know always lol'ed about some guy who was riding around, crashed and his head got lodged in the wheel well of a car and popped his head off his shoulder like a pimple. He claimed when he opened the visor of the helmet his eyes were huge like a "oh shit" look.

Gotta call bullshit on this story. Even back then they didnt just walk up and yank a guys helmet off after an accident. The guy may have a broken neck and if you jerk the helmet off you could paralyze him. Also if his head was so loosely attached that it came off just by pulling the helmet, it would have come off way before then.

This is a terrible time to ride your bike - there is about a 1/4 of gravel and sand on the corners and sides of the road. Hit that and you are on the deck pronto on a bike. Id wait till May to start riding when the loose stuff has been swept or washed away.

Seeing a crotch rocket rider safely ride will happen about ten percent of the time. The other ninety percent it is some asshole speeding, weaving between cars, splitting lanes, every dumbass move you can thing of. When they splat I'm just thankful when there isn't another vehicle involved.

My oldest brother was in a motorcycle accident THIS day 19 years ago on West Ox road behind Fair Oaks Hospital. A medical hellicopter landed in the fields of Navy Elementary School (I believe that is the name) and he was found 1,000 feet from the intial impact. A drunk driver ran, what was then a stop sign, now a light and he hit the front end of her vehicle and traveled like I said 1,000ft from impact. Wheter all 1,000ft. was air born I do not know. He was traveling under 50mph. He tore his Aorta completely in half and broke almost every bone in his back. Miraculously he is alive and well!

Well, unless there was an EMT Advaned Life Support Crew on the scene BEFORE he wrecked, he never would have made it to the hospital in time to survive with a "completely torn in half" (your words) aorta. The avg time to survive something like that is about 3-5 minutes before you bleed out. So I guess he was very lucky. Was the hit and run vehicle an ambulance?
