They should move Kilroy's to the landfill down in Lorton, where the stench won't be as noticeable.

Actually, the owners of Kilroy's came down to that open lot next to the landfill to survey it...and the owners of the landfill called 911 to report "a foul odor".

Whats the latest on the Ravensworth strip mall? I see some impressive new facades being put up, should help greatly with the shopping experience.

Didn't see any permits in the window at the old Safeway, makes me think the Lotte deal is dead.

The old post office space has permits in the window for a company that does kids swimming lessons. Wonder if this is simply an office space or they're somehow going to build above ground practice pools?

DQ has been given a facelift.

Why are you asking when you seem to have been there recently?

Yeah, those 'impressive new facades' surely will enhance the 'shopping experience.' I'll probably buy 20% more Boy Scout merchandise as a result. smh

They're not that impressive. The DQ put up a small section of pseudo-stone-looking plastic tiles on the wall.

No, they're not going to put above ground pools in the Post Office space. That's ridiculous.

Wrong - they do have a swim instruction facility going into the retail over there. Cant remember the name. I have been in commercial real estate decades and I really cannot speculate on how they will construct the pool area...

Probably some kind of above ground pool, maybe made out of fiberglass. Can't imagine the mall and insurance company would sign off on it!

The space the swim place is going in (old post office) is starting construction. They have half of the slab removed and backfilled with aggregate. Maybe they are going to excavate and put a pool in. That is an enormous amount of tenant improvements for a retail location.

I wish them the best but why the hell would a swim training store sink all that money into a location across the street from an olympic size public pool that gives lessons for next to nothing? Maybe its like the Karate thing - just another option for after school care. What a racquet.

I heard Kilroy's is negotiating for the old Washington Sports Club location in the Whole Food Plaza in West Springfield. Right beside Austin Grille.

Lotte is a pit. I just went to the one in Ashburn - just a year old and it is already looking like a 3rd world pit. This Asian crap chain will drag the value of the center and other stores down like a rock. They reak of fish. They stock boxes and bags all over the isles instead of shelving and the trash that work there look like they just came from prison. Mark my words the old ravensworth with Bazanno and other low level retailers will look posh when compared to Lotte. Thanks for crapifying our neighborhood...

So is the Lotte still a go?

The door was open whenI drove by yesterday and all the old Shoppers signs were still up inside.

Dosn't look like any work has been done inside.

That's strange, since the old store was a Safeway.

I hope a Shoppers is coming in.

Don't Know about the grocery store, they have repaved the parking lot and are about finished with the job. Going to the post office I saw inside the kids swim lesson place. Holy Baby Swimmers Batman! I though this "Kids Swim School" was an Office. No they have remodeled the old post office there and they put a real swimming pool 4 to 2 1/2 feet deep in that space ! Wow that's a lot of money. I bet they will do well as there's thousands of parents wanting learn to swim lessons for kids all over NOVA. The parks have the lessons but they must be full up.

Also Smith and Clarkson has relocated to Burke Centre. Took over a bagel shop place that had no chance after Dunkin' Donuts went into the same complex.

ON the swim place - Audrey Moore is across the street. They have great lessons for kids of all ages and an olympic pool with diving boards and a platform. My only guess is the model for the kids pool place is after school sitting service (like the Martial Arts places). If all you want is your kid to learn to swim go to the municipal pool across Braddock.

On the Safeway site - they finally started buildout in Sept and Im guessing we are 60 days or so till open, so before Xmas. Get ready for the stench of a metric ton of dead fish and the parking lot becoming a demolition derby filled with late model Honda's and Toyotas. It will be like taking a trip to the third world and its just around the corner!!!

Late Model, what does that mean? old or recent? I wish they would say that...an older model Honda or a recent model year Toyota, etc.

Their fault for not gating it and making it a members only establishment.

The shopping center is a dump. The renovations don't help as the area is mostly gooks & wetbacks. They could care less about atmosphere, they will go anywhere to shoplift.

Knock the place down and build low income housing like 9x9 mud huts with cardboard flooring and Plexiglas windows. That suits this dumpy hood. North Springfield used to be a nice neighborhood but it's a third world dump now. Even the idiots on the Civic assoc. are creating a gook outreach. Don't fork over the $15 a year if you live there. They are worthless and the president is a pathetic ass that just wants to leapfrog to the board of supervisors. That's his big dream.
