Cops need to write tix for people not clearing snow

Clear the snow off your vehicle, shovel your sidewalk, has a single ticket been written this winter for either of these offenses?

There is no VA law that requires driver to clean off the snow from there cars. The tickets would never hold up in court.

Shut the fuck up and get a hobby.

You want cops to write tickets for things that aren't illegal?

First, while in poor taste and an asshole thing to do, leaving snow on your car is not illegal

Second, neither is not shoveling your sidewalk, dumbshit! The sidewalk isn't even yours! While it might be a nice thing to do, shoveling a public sidewalk in from of your house is not law.

Goddamn people around here are lonely and stupid.

What a bunch of babies. A little snow coming off a car isn't going to hurt you or your car. If youre such a fraidy cat just stay the fuck off the road. I think cops have (or should have) more important things to do than write tickets for snow on your car.

People that don't clear the snow off their car and drive around are a fucking hazard to everyone. Fucking sheet of ice/snow comes flying off their car and hits yours..........what do you think will happen?

Personally, people like that should have their skulls crushed in with a baseball bat!

Actually some municipalities do have ordinances about shoveling sidewalks. Particularly in front of businesses. Most state snow must be removed by 24 hours after snow stops falling.

I've always left snow on the car. I see how long it takes to melt off the hood. I also watch my mirrors to see how far it flies after leaving the roof. I'm disappointed when I miss the roof ejection, which is probably more than half the time. After all, I do gotta watch in front too

The po-po can write you up a ticket for not clearing the snow off of your car but the will write it up like this..........

Driving your car around with snow on it and it comes flying off will constitute a written citation as FAILURE TO SECURE A LOAD. This is because you have an object on your vehicle that was not originally part of the vehicle. This is like when you see people driving down the road with a mattress on their car and they have it tied down. If the mattress comes off the car while driving then you failed to SECURE A LOAD. Snow is the same thing. It's an object on your vehicle. You don't secure it and it comes off while driving then it becomes a citation.

It sounds crazy and far fetched but this has held up in a court of law.

I shoveled the sidewalk. Six hours later a plow finally came through and threw all the snow from the street onto the sidewalk. Its solid, uneven ice now and won't come up. If shoveling the walks were compulsory, to whom should the ticket be written?
Check out the Haycock Road bridge over Route 66, leading to the W. Falls Church Metro station after any snow. It's unpassable because cars rule in NOVA. FFX obviously doesn't care about sidewalks.

There have been incidences of snow/ice flying off car roofs and through the windshield of the car behind, and killing that driver. If you are too lazy to clean your car, stay off the road before you kill someone, dumb-ass!

If I took a sheet and covered 2/3 of my windshield and drove around, I'd damn well get a ticket for reckless driving (or something similar). Same should be true for the idiots that don't clear their windshield fully.

Here is the legislature for the State of Washington on "Securing a Load". I'm sure Virginia has something similar.

Dropping load, other materials — Covering.

(1) No vehicle shall be driven or moved on any public highway unless such vehicle is so constructed or loaded as to prevent any of its load from dropping, sifting, leaking, or otherwise escaping therefrom, except that sand may be dropped for the purpose of securing traction.

(2) No person may operate on any public highway any vehicle with any load unless the load and such covering as required thereon by subsection (3) of this section is securely fastened to prevent the covering or load from becoming loose, detached, or in any manner a hazard to other users of the highway.

(3) Any vehicle operating on a paved public highway with a load of dirt, sand, or gravel susceptible to being dropped, spilled, leaked, or otherwise escaping therefrom shall be covered so as to prevent spillage. Covering of such loads is not required if six inches of freeboard is maintained within the bed.

(4)(a) Any person operating a vehicle from which any glass or objects have fallen or escaped, which would constitute an obstruction or injure a vehicle or otherwise endanger travel upon such public highway shall immediately cause the public highway to be cleaned of all such glass or objects and shall pay any costs therefor.

(b) Any vehicle with deposits of mud, rocks, or other debris on the vehicle's body, fenders, frame, undercarriage, wheels, or tires shall be cleaned of such material before the operation of the vehicle on a paved public highway.

(5) The state patrol may make necessary rules to carry into effect the provisions of this section, applying such provisions to specific conditions and loads and prescribing means, methods, and practices to effectuate such provisions.

(6) Nothing in this section may be construed to prohibit a public maintenance vehicle from dropping sand on a highway to enhance traction, or sprinkling water or other substances to clean or maintain a highway.

(7)(a)(i) A person is guilty of failure to secure a load in the first degree if he or she, with criminal negligence, fails to secure a load or part of a load to his or her vehicle in compliance with subsection (1), (2), or (3) of this section and causes substantial bodily harm to another.

(ii) Failure to secure a load in the first degree is a gross misdemeanor.

(b)(i) A person is guilty of failure to secure a load in the second degree if he or she, with criminal negligence, fails to secure a load or part of a load to his or her vehicle in compliance with subsection (1) or (2) of this section and causes damage to property of another.

(ii) Failure to secure a load in the second degree is a misdemeanor.

(c) A person who fails to secure a load or part of a load to his or her vehicle in compliance with subsection (1), (2), or (3) of this section is guilty of an infraction if such failure does not amount to a violation of (a) or (b) of this subsection.

OP seems like the type of person that sits near his window watching who walks and drives by his house all day. He then calls the cops on people he deems "suspicious" even though they're just lost or going on a walk. He's also they type of guy that sneakingly reports co-workers at work because he's a snitch.

What do I think will happen? I think it hits my car, shatters into many small pieces and then once the air is warm enough those pieces of ice melt and either runoff into the Chesapeake Bay or evaporate.

This is NOVA, not the Arctic Circle.

Oh do shut up, Sarah Palin. The government forces us to do all kinds of things like replace car tires, cut the grass, do homework. All are legal.

I can tell you several years back that some selfish prick was driving in front of my vehicle on the interstate, and the snow/ice came up and smashed directly into my windshield, destroying it. I say selfish prick because that driver did not clean the snow/ice off her vehicle.

It is reckless driving, and that's a crime.

And you non-lawyers saying "won't hold up in court" sound like my dumbass clients.

Homework and replacing tires are not labor. Since you can't even grasp that, delving into law is going to be way,way above your head.

Clean off your damned cars. It's common sense. When snow melts, it turns to ice. When ice flies off your car, it can do damage like cracking people's windshields or scratching their paint. Don't be lazy.

This was the wrong kind of snow to be dangerous on the roofs of vehicles. It was all powder that just blows off harmlessly.

Now those snows that end in freezing rain that leaves a thick layer of ice on top---that's dangerous. Those sheets of ice blowing off and hitting your car can fuck you up!

You should get a ticket for diving so close behind another vehicle, particularly on snowy/icy roads. And a boot up your ass for being a whiny bitch. Liberal pussy.

If person is elderly, disabled, or have heart issues, would not expect them out there clearing sidewalks. Hopefully they can find some kind neighborhood souls to help them. Usually many in high school or college up to the chore and looking for extra spending money.
