Lawyers Flier For DUI Checkpoint - Just show the Flier to Pass

A Florida lawyer is offering what he considers a foolproof way to get through DUI checkpoints: don't say a word to police. He's distributing what he calls the Fair DUI Flyer, and his video tutorial on YouTube has been viewed more than 2 million times.

Advocacy groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), however, fear it could allow impaired drivers to bypass the law, reports CBS News correspondent Jan Crawford.

Last New Year's Eve, police waved one driver through a DUI checkpoint in Florida without even asking him to roll down his window. Warren Redlich, the man behind the wheel, believes he has found a legal loophole to dodge sobriety checks.

"What the checkpoints require is that you stop, and typically that you show the police your driver's license. You're doing that," Redlich said. "What you're not doing is going beyond what is required in a checkpoint."

You are required to sign in Virginia. The ticket indicates a signature is simply an agreement to appear for the hearing, and they can take you before a magistrate if you refuse to sign. Once you open the window they will probably smell alcohol and have an excuse to investigate further, so you might want to use something to mask the smell. I recommend a cloud of marijuana smoke.

The police have gotten their own placard to show motorists who pull out the above sign . It reads , "Fine , but please move back from the window to avoid shattering glass"

What as the officers try to get the citizen to provide incriminating answers.

Cops can be helpful but they are not your friends and most importantly they are not honest. They are trained to lie and intimidate - that is part of their job. When dealing with persons trained and paid to lie to you act accordingly...

The obvious solution to the signature issue is to install an air lock so that you can pass the ticket and license without any odor escaping from the car.

Yes, and if you act suspiciously they are likely to suspect you. A pissed-off cop might find some other probable cause to get you out of the vehicle ("I saw him weave as he came to a stop"). The best solution is to not drink and drive. If you do, pulling some dumb maneuver that draws attention to yourself would be counterproductive. In a real world situation being entirely uncooperative is as bad as being too talkative.
