A man who police say shot his estranged wife at her Middleburg, Va. home early Saturday was found dead in parking lot in Herndon several hours later from what police believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said police first responded at 3:15 a.m. to a report of a break-in at a home in 23000 block of Champe Ford Road near Middleburg, where they say a woman had been shot. Police said the woman’s estranged husband had broken into the home and shot her once before she was able to wrestle the gun from his hands and fire back. In a news release, police did not say if the shot she fired struck the man.
The husband then fled, police said. The woman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police searched for the man in the Herndon area where he has a home. He was found dead of what police said was a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a parking lot in the 2600 block of Reston Parkway shortly before 10 a.m.
