Mason and the NBA Draft

It's a shame how quickly the DC media have forgotten the Mason players who took GMU to the Final Four. The NBA draft came and went and I didn't hear shit one way or the other about what happened to some of the guys.

If you are interested, apparently Tony Skinn has been invited to try out for the ABA expansion team the Alexandria-Mongolia United (WTF kind of name is that???)...

Apparently Jai Lewis is still in the running for a position with the NY Giants.

It's just a shame the local media has pretty much forgotten about these guys already. So much for Cinderella.

The players from Mason didn't deserve to be drafted in the NBA. They played well as a TEAM, but as individuals, none of them have the talent or size to play in the NBA. No knock against them, but it's the sad facts of life. Sometimes, you can't always achieve your dreams no matter how hard you work at it. Don't cry for them though, they will be OK and make a decent living playing in the ABA or overseas or in the NFL like the big man is trying to do. And if not, the world needs UPS drivers too!

I realize many of these guys won't be starters in the NBA. I was interested, though, in why the local media didn't do more on what these guys are doing now that they aren't included in the NBA draft.

Also, with the NBA draft being so bad this year, you would think there would be undrafted bench opportunities for guys like Skinn with his 3-pointer and speed.

Yeah agreed, they were not amazing players, they just really played well as a team. Although a couple GMU guys definitely had more talent than some NBA no namers.

That size argument is true, but it is just crap. Juan Dixon is not exactly too-tall, and he was drafted and is having a good career so far. The fact of the matter is that it merely comes down to talent, and all the talent that is relevent for GMU is embodied in Coach L.

I heard all the team scouts were driving down Braddock and had to deal with that fucking eyesore sign they just put up that blocks the view of the traffic signals. Then they all agreed not to put GMU on the NBA map.
