Speed was obviously a factor, and police are well aware that drivers go very fast on that section of the beltway. Wait to see whether state police release how fast each car was going. Trooper A. M. Hoye is investigating the crash.

Fairfax Fire and Rescue arrived within 12 minutes and closed all lanes. Reopened by state police around 4 pm. Traffic was backed up to Route 1, and gridlocked on Van Dorn, Duke, Eisenhower, Telegraph, and Franconia.

That's one less illegal to house and feed.

those are famous for causing pathfinder violent rear end wobble and flip-overs when it gets up to speed

is why suspension bushings are part of state inspection

I use that ramp twice daily. Part of what is so fucked up about that ramp from Van Dorn onto 495 is that it's one of the few ramps in NOVA where you actually don't have to come down the ramp and merge. The ramp dumps you right into your own lane that runs at least as far as the next interchange at 95.

And yet, because drivers are so conditioned to come down a ramp and IMMEDIATELY dive bomb to the left (typically without bothering to look) then you have what you have with Senora Guzman.

For those using that ramp...again, just come down the ramp and drop the hammer as you straighten out. There is no need to merge left here.

Maybe the BMW should slow down, maybe the brown, savage, illegal mud-person Guzman should have been wearing her seatbelt...if she'd held her lane, she'd still be alive. Well, at least until the NEXT ramp she went down which WOULD require her merge left anyway...

I understand why some people are upset at the nature of the comments made (see e.g., Afriend, above, but the reponses are barely literate, and if the intent was to demonstrate the deceased was a person who should be honored, they have failed miserably. One would hope a literate person could come on hear and state something meaningful about the person.

This is obviously a tragic event, but the failure to wear a seat belt goes beyond bad judgment. How could one even think of traveling on the beltway without seatbelts attached? This does not mean the deceased deserved her fate but the odds of fatality or a serious accident mutliply greatly without a seat belt, and even more so with a SUV.

And yes, insensitive as it may be, it does invite the possibility of third world sensibilities being a factor. If at possible, this should be discussed,no matter how politically incorrect. It is not trite to relate that seat belts save lives.

And then you have another fucked up exit at I-395 South at Duke Street. Who the fuck thought it would be ok to have the far right lane end right BEFORE the exit?!?!? Yes, there's signage. Ample signage and yet...

Every week I see people driving in the far right lane approaching the exit. The see the lane is ending and either drive in the shoulder (so fucking dangerous) or worse, pull the aforementioned "NOVA Highway Dive Bomb" and move left at the last moment and then swerve right to get off at Duke Street.

Folks, as soon as you pass the I-395 exit at Seminary Road? Move one lane left and get over early. Oh...and as for you fucksticks that think you can come up behind me, roar around me on the right and then cut me off before the exit at Duke Street? May your mothers all suck black cocks in hell.

The other place I've seen this is people coming off the loop ramp from 50 West onto 66 West.

Often people come down that ramp and plod along at 40mph because they have their own lane. Then someone behind them gets frustrated and tries to cut around them to the left, in front of cars going 75mph.

The worst is people (often with MD plates) who STOP at the end of a ramp, even when the lane continues as a travel lane. I've rearended idiots who have done that.In almost all cases, there is plenty of room to merge using the acceleration lane. The only time anyone should stop is if there's no merge area or if traffic you're merging into is also stopped. GRRRR....

I'm so saddened by this tragedy. What were the ages of the victims Dinora, Del, Carmen, and Guzman? Were they all related? Who was driving at the time? I'm praying for them all!

65 is hardly speeding, that's about the average speed most go on 495. The out of state 95 through traffic regularly goes 80+

Don't bother asking. All you'll get from them is an illogical and illiterate response. They just inherited her stupid and have probably already passed it to their offspring who could pass as their siblings--what happens when you have kids at 12.

Having gotten a sense of what her daughters are like, it seems plausible that this was suicide.

My vote would be for the illegal in the SUV who can't merge. Also 65 on the Beltway isn't really speeding.
