UMW, VT, JMU, or GMU?!

I'm really interested in political science and was wondering which of these schools would be best for pursuing that interest? I haven't heard back yet from UVA and was deferred from W&M early decision, so for the sake of exploring other options, I have started to really consider my backup in-state schools. I don't care about any of the social stuff just yet; the academics of each school with regard to poli sci is what I am immediately concerned with. Any insight would be great with the application process winding down.

If you're going to do political science, why leave the DC area? VT and JMU are in cow pastures and Mary Wash is an hour away. Mason has some great graduate programs if you are interested in working at a non-profit / lobby / NGO. Arlington is packed full of these organizations. The opportunities for interning while a student at Mason are unlimited. Don't send yourself away to expensive cow pastures.

None is particularly strong in poli sci, but Mason is probably the best bet of the lot. If you are from Nova it might be worth going somewhere else though. It's good to get out of Dodge.

I know that JMU has a semester in DC program and they have a bunch of alumni on the hill.

FFXU has an On-Line University that offers advanced degrees in Political Science.

Just go to the Off Topic section of FFXU and get schooled.

Avoid the WingNut threads though, they can permanently lower your IQ to Fox News standards.

Why isn't Marymount University (http://www.marymount.edu/Academics/School-of-Arts-Sciences/Undergraduate-Programs/Politics-(B-A-)) on your list.

I don't really wanna be that close to home since I live in Arlington, Yabadaba. Also does anybody know what ODU and VCU are like in terms of poli sci?

Don't know what you think that you're going to do with a poli-sci degree. There's a lot of range within that and the strengths in different areas will be better or worse at different schools. Within that scheme of things, ODU has a very good public administration program.

Have you looked at W&L or GW?

I visited W&L twice, and it's a tremendous school, but it would definitely be a reach. GW is nice, but it's also a few streets over from where my parents work, which might be a bit too close for my tastes lol.

Are you a hot and clueless babe who likes getting raped? If so, UVA is your only choice.

GW probably is the best in the area for that kind of thing but it's also stupid expensive.

Georgetown not quite as bad but close.

The University of Maryland is the best choice by far.
