Cox and Comcast have NOVA divvied up. Comcast used to be my only choice in Reston until Fios finally arrived. It wasn't until I switched to Fios that Comcast could give a shit about my business. Competition is a good thing.

Comcast is not a monopoly thanks to FiOS nor is it in Fairfax County but I believe Comcast has Reston, Alexandria, Arlington and PW.

And Loudoun, too, except where OpenBand has their monopoly. If you are in an OpenBand neighborhood, you have to pay for OpenBand (part of the HOA fees) whether you want it or not.

I have xfinity in WV for internet. It's really a division of Comcast though. It works. I've never had any major problems.

Some places the cable monopoly is Comcast, in other parts of the U.S. it is Time Warner.

Comcast owns the cable. They bought it when they bought media general. I doubt it would be feasible for another company to run another set of cable and expect to make a profit. Just like the water, power, and gas.
