McDonnell Sentenced to 24 Months

Unbelievable. Must be a Republican judge.

In a "country club" no doubt.

Oh well, I was expecting he would probation and community service so I guess this is a win.

It's the establishment. A judge in Fauquier County sentenced a VA State Trooper to just 30 days in jail for sex abuse of a minor (7th grader) and DID NOT require him to register as a sex offender!

It's not what you know.......it's who you know.

Club Fed, here comes the Gov. Gas up the Porsche. Polish the Rolex. Order tubs of teeth whitener. Bring in a 25-year old for conjugal visits. The Old Bag Lady didn't appreciate Bobby Haircut whoring around and demanded gifts in return.

Typical white privilege.....I wonder how big of an office he will get in jail to run his lobbyist firm from.

And we wonder why political corruption continues.

They will send him to Keen Mountain or River North. Both are some fairly easy time. At Keen Mountain they make flags, tee shirts and lunch lady aprons. It's kind of like living in a college dorm. If everyone is good all week they get to watch a couple of dvd's from redbox on Saturday night otherwise just basic cable.

Now if we could just undo all the damage he did like selling lames on 1-95 for 99 years to a foreign corporation.

Keen Mtn and River North are state facilities. He is going to a Federal facility.

FPC Pensacola is a good bet.

The federal agency that will play a pivotal role in guiding the sentence of former Virginia governor Robert F. McDonnell has recommended that the onetime Republican rising star spend at least 10 years and a month in prison, according to several people familiar with the matter.

The guidelines recommended by the U.S. probation office are preliminary, and even if finalized, U.S. District Judge James R. Spencer is not required to follow them. But experts said that Spencer typically heeds the probation office’s advice, and judges in his district have imposed sentences within the recommendations more than 70 percent of the time in recent years.

“It’s of critical importance,” said Scott Fredericksen, a white-collar criminal defense lawyer. “The fact is, the vast majority of times, courts follow those recommendations closely.”

So, we have another Federal Agency that is just wasting taxpayer dollars. Looks like the fix was in.

McDonnell just spoke to the press and said he never betrayed his sacred oath of office. So he still refuses to acknowledge he did anything wrong. With this gift from the judge, I wouldn't be surprised to see McDonnell worm his way back into politics in a few years.

Too bad McDonnell didn't have any ambassadorships to sell. Hell, he didn't even have any US visa's to sell to Chicom "investors" in a shell green-energy company. All he could sell was............what exactly? What did Williams get out of all this (other than some stink finger)?

An appropriate sentence. The judge no doubt took into consideration that the technical legal basis for this conviction was tenuous. It SHOULD have been a crime, but the law as written currently did not apply. An aggressive prosecution easily convinced a jury that it SHOULD have been a crime but the judge realized legally it was probably not.

Still waiting for McAuliffe and General Assembly to definitively close the door on this type of activity. Not holding my breath.

He should have erased all the emails, destroyed the hard drives and then said he didn't remember anything. That seems to be working for the IRS.

So a judge can effectively ignore a jury verdict? Hell, why bother having a jury trial at all then?

Given the amount of gifts that governors get - either party, from Christie to Kaine and Warner - I'm sort of surprised that McDonnell got in trouble. With that being said, hopefully this is where the line gets drawn.

Sentencing Guidelines called for him to get around 5 1/2- 7 years. But if he does his 2 years in Shawshank and gets the Andy treatment, then justice would still be served

Although I'm a libtard, I admire Gov McDonnell. He struck me as a reasonable and thinking man. Not the usual wild-eyed motherfuckers that the GOP usually puts forth.

I kind of felt sorry for Bob. I blame that cunt he married and his spoiled kids for the whole mess.

If was really a crook, he'd have stolen millions, not the peanuts he was charged with.

If I was the judge, I would have sentenced him to pick up trash on the highway for a few weekends. The guy is ruined anyway, locking him up serves no purpose. He could have been the 2016 presidential candidate and I would have seriously considered voting for him and I never vote GOP. Damned shame.

The judge was pretty harsh on the prosecutors and parole office. Basically said they were not just wrong, they were being unjustly vindictive. We have been reading all month that the "standard" recommendation, which is followed in 80% of cases, is 8-10 years in club fed. This judge threw out their recommendation before they even got in one word. He was particularly irked that the prosecutor kept trying to compare this case with completely different cases and his oft-repeated accusation that this was the worst crime in Virginia politics in over 200 years. It sounded like he almost gave him nothing, based only on Tim Kaine's letter.

He also went to great lengths to repeat that the jury found him guilty, almost to the point of not being convinced himself. Though he did dismiss the supporters who claimed conspiracy theories.

In case you are wondering, the judge and prosecutor are both Democratic appointees.

The 2 year sentence (less with good behavior) may have just been an attempt to encourage the Governor not to appeal. If so, it did not work, as an appeal is already promised.

Which means this case is far from over.

Let's see what Maureen receives.

The judge was a Reagan appointee. Last I heard, the Gipper was a Republican.

True, compared to a Ted Cruz or a Louie Gommert. But he still reported to the Republican Party.

You can't blame the wife, no matter how reckless she was in her spending. The primary reason the McDonnells were in financial trouble was because they made ill timed real estate investments. That's on him. And he could have clamped down on his wife, but he didn't. He enjoyed the largesse.

> If was really a crook, he'd have stolen millions,

He didn't 'steal' anything, at least not directly. Thats not how it works. He accepted 'gifts' from a benefactor. Both sides knew exactly what they were doing. Bribery is bribery - the amount doesn't really matter.

Sure it does. It sends a message. The message could have and should have been a lot stronger, however. And I don't agree that he is ruined politically.

No, it's not. I don't care how seemingly reasonable a Republican candidate may be, he will still be controlled by the base - who are insane. And I say that as a former Republican.

Well, they considered all the evidence.

But he betrayed the public trust, and I vote Republican.

He deserves time and got that. Only those who see all the evidence get to judge.

Lets not let tjis denigrate into another Freguson and second guess.

Bob McDonnell's clothes are better than all the other Democrats here. I'm ashamed of my own party for being hypocritical. Bob McDonnell was a good man who was deceived by his wife. He was a true public servant who loved serving the Commonwealth so much that his personal relations were strained.
