I agree mama. But this is what happens when government takes away an entitlement aka welfare. The public goes bananas. Growing up in Virginia, the "snow day" is a government issued entitlement given to school aged children and teachers. We're not like those uppity Yankees who plow all this crap away and still get to work and school on time, drive up hill in the snow both ways. OH NO! It's a snow day. Keep those pajamas on, warm up the cocoa and spend 40 minutes overdressing your kids so that they can spend 10 minutes outside in the snow (just long enough to get a photo and load it on Facebook) before they come back in and let the cable television and apple applications wash over them.
Upon looking out my window this morning in scenic Greenbriar, VA, I thought, great, my kids are fixin' to enjoy this great welfare provided by the government, the Snow Day. Of course, it turns out, someone didn't get the memo. Dog gone shame. Some Yankee transplants no doubt making them decisions. When citizens grow accustomed to entitlement and the government pulls back, the receivers go bananas and cause havoc on social media and message boards.
On the plus side, next time this winter so much as a flurry is called for, might as well drink heavily because the snow day is on. The old "make up for a bad call, I don't want to deal with these crazy parents again" day off even though it hasn't snowed a lick yet.
