Um that took place 5 miles out from where I'm looking.

Anybody familiar with the general neighborhood around 4600 Duke St? I know there's a Harris Teeter across the street and now an Aldi right next door as well.

Wondering if anybody has any experience living close to this spot.

The West End of Alexandria has started a long and slow decline, predicated on the closing and lack of redevelopment at Landmark Mall. For nearly a decade now, they have talked about a Town Center being built there like what's at National Harbor. Then, a few weeks ago, it was announced that Carpenter House, a homeless shelter in Old Town is going to close for renovations and open up temporarily in the old Macy's location at Landmark Mall. Nobody here in the neighborhood believes that the Mall's owner is going to enforce that lease, evict Carpenter's House in 2 years so that the long awaited redevelopment of Landmark can proceed.

There has also been a sharp increase in crime in that area. Sunday night, there was a shooting at All Veteran's Park not far from 4600 Duke.

In closing, it's a good value...right now. Good access to 395 and commuting downtown. But, property values are on the decline and you will not re-sell that property for a profit because the neighborhood is in such decline.

I had a friend live there about 5 years ago, went to a few gatherings at her house.

Pros- nice large units with huge bedrooms so you can fit your king sized bed and still have plenty of room, a good commuting area if you work in Alexandria itself or DC. Nice views in the upper level condos. OK Soundproofing, you won't hear your neighbors unless they have subwoofers on or are stomping around on purpose on hardwood floors above you. Plenty of shopping within a 10-minute drive or walk across 236 if you dare...but there is 7-11 right there in a pinch.

Cons- filled with old (mostly white) people who complain about everything. As they literally die out, a minority family buys it for cheap.

That, and muslims, you will hear the prayer calls ring out from people's loud stereo systems.

Shitty parking since they bring in all their friends and overcrowd like the hispanics do. Not to mention foxchase apartments across the street, you will be fighting for street parking with their guests too. Good luck finding parking after 8pm even WITH a permit. Guest parking, lol forget about it. I always ended up parking a block down and walking in.

Constant stink of curry in the hallways (fine to eat, but not to smell it 24-7!)

Front desk "security" is a joke. I just walked in following someone else, was never buzzed in, they looked dead at me then went back to playing on their phone or whatever.

I can recall the water got shut off often. I wonder if they ever repaved that hideous back lot or opened their pool. It was never open the entire summer I came by.

For a first place while saving for a house or as a rental- ok but I wouldn't want to live there with my family permanently.

Cool yea I realize the area is kinda rundown but at least I can afford the payments there.

Not looking forward to the shitty parking and curry but overall it doesn't sound that bad actually. If anything it would be an upgrade from my current place (Seminary Towers) where every Muslim woman in a burka stares you down for being an infidel.

Obviously have a lot to think over but this is super helpful so thanks!!

It was a great place to live...back in 1973 when I was stationed at Arlington Hall Station. Misty Beethoven played at the theatre across the street for about 2 years straight around 1976-77. At the time I didn't even know what a fucking muslim looked like. Those were great times, hang out on Columbia Pike, Whitey's in Clarendon, Crazy Horse in Georgetown etc.

Misty Beethoven. Classic. One of the best. Back when they were made like real movies with actual production value.

Production values? Bro, do you even porn?

Production values are higher in porn now then ever before and rival Hollywood's best cinematography. Pirates (2005) was a game changer for production values in porn. You may not care for the action, but it's amazingly filmed.

And if you still want poorly lit and acted amateur stuff...that's out there, too.

what was the name of the bar next to 4600? Smugglers Inn? After that I think it was the Bombay Bicycle Club. There was a strip club in Foxchase shopping center which back then was Shirley Duke.

No effing Way. Not bad in the 80s but it’s a shit hole now. Fox chase is across the street which has gotten bad. Stay away from the 7-11 near the Aldi. They’ve had several shootings on N Jordan near there as well.

No. The 'strip club,' which was the weakest strip club ever and could barely even be called that - basically ugly women sort of poorly dancing in their underwear - wasn't there until long after it was Shirley Duke. Around the same time as Bombay.

One of my buddies was going there all the time cause he liked one of the girls. We finally had to have what today would be called an intervention. Back then it pretty much consisted of telling everybody we knew to embarrass him and laughing at his dumb ass.

It probably depends on the number of bedrooms. More bedrooms = higher condo fee.

Look at one of the real estate sites for places at that address. Usually they will have the condo fee listed.

No freakin' way dude, dont do it!!!
All foreigners stinking the place up, roaches, mice, bed bugs. It's ghetto and dirty there. And FYI buying a condo is a TERRIBLE investment. Condo fees are $650 for one bedroom, all the listing say the condo fees. I have a friend who's currently stuck there.

I got like 8 DUIs after drinking at Mango Mike’s, sad that the place is gone. I now do my heaving drinking at Los Toltecos before getting behind the wheel.

It is a tragedy when people get away with murder. Justice may not be served, leaving families and loved ones of the victim without closure. Although rare, forensic evidence and new technology can sometimes bring justice even years later. However, it is crucial for society to ensure a fair and just legal system to prevent such injustices from happening.
