FCPS employees retire at 50

This teacher is retiring after 25 years of teaching. How much will he get every month doing retirement?

This teacher is 50 with 25 years service? That's qualifies him for early retirement with a substantial reduction in benefits.

He will likely need to get a job at least until eligible for Social Security.

These unrealistically generous public employee benefits are
1. Getting socialists elected.
2. Bankrupting governments around the world.

I had 20 years with ffxco and get about $70k a year in retirement plus full health benefits. Believe me, I don't live in that God forsaken county anymore. Don't worry about what the teachers get, look at what they are giving to kids of scumbag parents. Free shit.

The entire time FCPS was claiming its teachers were so underpaid compared to teachers in other jurisdictions they were omitting the fact that their retirement benefits are far more generous. It is a very sweet deal to be a retired FCPS teacher. People who leave their jobs in the private sector with no defined benefit payments and meager 401(k) plans knows this, but FCPS wants to tax county residents to death.

Yes, in FFX County it's possible to retire at 50(probably the earliest someone can). Here is the equation they use:

Their age + number of years served.

I believe the magic number is 80, so, if they are 50 years old plus the number of years they serve, lets say 30, then 50 + 30 = 80.

NICE FUCKING SYSTEM!!!!!

I'm a Fed and have 30 years in already but can't retire because I have to meet an age requirement which I won't get until another 9 years. NOW THAT SUCKS!

The county has now raised it to age + years of service = 85. I got in at 80. Not positive but I believe it was 75 at one time so it looks like the teacher in question here is probably getting full retirement.

Yes, a County retiree can take their health benefit into retirement BUT THEY HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM. There is a small health care credit, but the retiree pays most of the freight.

For single coverage, over $600 a month comes out of my County pension.

Don't be mad at people that receive a defined benefit pension. Be mad at the people that stole YOURS.

They were once very common in the private sector too, you know.

I retired from the Fed early two years ago. I like getting out in the traffic in the morning and seeing all the people. Sometimes I go slow in the left lane so I can see a whole bunch of people!

Until they realized that the numbers don't work and nobody can realistically do it now with people living longer. In addition to GAAP requiring that they carry future pension and healthcare obligations on their books as liabilities which serves as a reality stick.

The public-sector side still is operating in a fantasy world funded by a bottomless pot of money, i.e., you. Reality is going to cause that all to come to a very ugly end soon.

I retired from the county after 25 years at age 50. All county employees pay into the retirement system. I myself payed over 6 figures. The reason the retirement system is so successful in Fairfax is because the employees contributions and retirement plan is run by smart, competent people that are not raping the employees retirement like out in Detroit, Chicago, and other places run by the son's and daughters of Obama. So quit being a bunch of jealous little bitches and go too work and stay at work.

That would have been folks like Reagan, Bush, Romney and others serving right-wing corporate interests rather than those of everyday Americans.

Yes, they were. And it's simply amazing what happens to the concept of Personal Responsibility® once some right-wing dope sits back and lets himself be completely screwed over.

Good on the teacher, maybe you should be smart enough to find a job that will let you retire at a descent age. I will be 52 myself with 28 years of service when i get my full retirement. What i will get a month is none of your business but rest assured it is not what i currently get paid now and also do not include benefits.

So what. I know people who went into the military who retired in their early forties. Some went on to take second full time jobs with the government (can you say double dip), some took full time jobs in private industry, some took part time jobs and some chose to sit around on their ass and enjoy life. I know police officers and fire fighters who have done the same thing before they turned 50. Why is it a problem for county employees, teachers specifically, to do this, but its OK for others.

Is when feds who make 30 % plus more then county people start bitchen about others who don't even have as good medical plans at higher prices then Feds especially when retired or make as much money while doing way more real work! I know I was a fed and I told bitchy co workers STFU and count YOUR blessings time to time to the busybody's who needed to do their jobs first . Yes your from NOVA where county and state people take the beatings while the feds ride the gravy trains although there are some really shitty jobs in fed service too with great people who deal with the problems they face and some feds shine and are worth their weight in pure gold but too many think they too are but their not worth their weight in Dog sh . You get my drift

Anyone who works for the government in one way or count your blessings and enjoy your job security and benefits and quit bitchen about others especially those in the private sector who have to produce or get the door shown to them , just do your job well and the rest will take care of itself

You are right. I lived in my Mom's basement till I was 33 and that made it real easy to save a bunch of money up. Even now I live in a small 2 level townhouse and I drive two Toyotas that look like shit but they run just fine and never break. If it's around 110 k yes you could retire from the county with 75 k and 20 years coming in at 40 leaving at 60 , if you are a polished minority PC yes to every thing the Democrat party stands for you can start as a janitor and sky rocket up , if not you'll be getting about 25 k still not bad for a sweeper when RN' s at major hospitals for 30 years get next to nothing but a hand out and what their 401 k dips down with another Democrat named JOE in the White House

My dad served 23 years as a FCPS Teacher. They gave him credit for Military service so it was like he did 25 yrs. When he died I believe his FCPS retirement was around $50 K per year. This was in 2013.He got
SS and a small Federal pension from his service at the CIA before he became a Teacher. It seems like the FCPS part was 50 K

Fairfax County hates all its employees, some more than others. the pensions are okay, the healthcare premiums suck and eat up the pension payments. Right now its about $2400 a month to cover a family of four, excluding co-pays.

during Clinton or Obama (or both)

SOME OFFICERS WERE RETIRING AFTER 20 YR

It's well known that Congress wrote itself a funding bill allowing Congress to RETIRE after 4-6 - that's right with lifetime pay.

When Congress did this the nation was in an uproar because many of USA's manufacturers, it turned out, were firing people just months before they reached retirement after 40 years. You can imagine these people were devistated and were left bankrupt due to the sudden loss of what they assumed could not be robbed from them: 40 yr straight of service. But under Clinton that's exactly what happened.

4 yr v. 40 yr is quite the difference and many in USA didn't get retirement after 40yr.

25 yr is probably a lie. Fx Co. Gov has been lying to the public about inner funds since Bill Clinton.

And while it was the job of the POLICE to look into crime - which includes THEFT OF 40 YR RETIREMENT WAGE STANDING,

They did not. They took their bribes to stay quiet and do as the Clinton boss man said.

That's what you get with a despotic regime like Clinton.

I run my own business. $2400 a month for health insurance for a family of four isn't out of line. It only seems like a lot because while you were working the cost of your health insurance was subsidized. Now my question: Why did you retire when you are still supporting three other people?

We need to put a stop to it. Members of the military get to retire with full benefits after 20 years. They can then go on and work for the government retiring again in their early 60s with two government funded pensions.
