IRS phone scam

Has this happened to anyone else?
I got a message on my home answering machine. The beginning of the message was cutoff by my outgoing message so i didn't understand the whole thing but I did get "IRS…don't ignore this call…further charges" and left a (202) number. I knew something wasn't right but I was curious so i called the number and got a foreign guy. From India if I'm guessing. He said they were calling to get the name of my lawyer. I said why and he said we need the name of your lawyer because of your charges. I said you are not legit right? and he hung up.
Should I report this?

Haha my brother got the same call from the same Indian or Baltic sounding guy (was hard to tell exactly.) He played along andthe guy wanted payment of back taxes via credit card or he was gonna be arrested the next day lol. Yeah report the number to the FBI or IRS. But, they may be using that number from a remote location so they may be beyond jurisdiction in reality. But the number at least might get shut down.

What can they do with the name of a lawyer? Not much.

Sounds like a foreign scam, they're spoofing the number.

But scam them right back. Give them the name of a lawyer you don't like. Let that lawyer get some calls from Apu and see how much they like it.

You can also do things like give them the numbers for Backpage escorts, the Church of Scientology, politicians you don't like, etc.

I received one of these calls too, from a 202 area code. The female caller sounded middle eastern/India. She said she was calling from the IRS. I said "NO you're not". She said "Wait and watch". I told her to fuck herself and hung up. I reported it to the local police. We called the phone number together and got what sounded like a cheapo answering machine, but you could not even leave a message. The man's voice had the same acent as the woman's. The cop told me that the answering machine's voice sounded like the other reports they had.He also said that these calls are actually coming from overseas and the 202 number keeps changing. The cop said to just ignore the photographs be calls and hang up on them.

If I get a call from these foreign scammers/telemarketers I just do their accent back at them. Half get angry, the other half don't even get it.

I got a scammer call from a "Lodhi Irsana" (on caller ID) from the possibly faked number 630-213-1978. A female speaking American English says she is from the IRS and wants money for back taxes owed. It is a scam to dupe you out of your money, do not even pick this up if you get it.

Well-known scam. The IRS will never, ever, cold call you.

Call back and mess with them. They'll hang up on you after about 3 seconds, so use your time wisely. These guys are usually from Russia, Belarus or Ukraine.

This.

If I get any (telemarketing, potential scam, etc) calls, I play along. But I start to ask them personal questions and make breathing noises. I interrupt them a lot and break in with something like "hey, hey, what are you wearing?" They usually say that's none of my business. Despite what their answer is, I say "mmmmm that sounds sexy...ooh yeah...so hot...I bet you have sexy lips". This really freaks out the (99%) male callers. They hang up.

Though not from the IRS, for about a year, I got calls from this Indian dude demanding my credit card number. He said he did "repairs" for me and I owed him money. He refused to explain who he was or what "repairs" he did. The abusive and harassing calls came in multiple times a day at any hour. He called using different 703 and 571 numbers, so the police couldn't do anything since everything was likely spoofed.

I'll be on the lookout for any 202 calls now. Fuckin scumbag scammmers.

Love to screw with these people. Whatever pops into my head like, "do you love pussy"? or "how long your dick today" and then listen to them grasp for an answer.

I have received the IRS scam call way too many times. They have threatened me several times that they will harm me.

Also, I am getting several calls from these numbers:

518-287-2070
804-420-4838
775-297-0235
310-907-8353
774-991-3030

888-893-9341 claims they are Microsoft and you have a virus on your computer. This fucking outfit must love calling Florida. It may be very presumptuous on my part, but must love senior citizens.

703-281-1434 not sure who this guy is, but has threatened me an ample amount of times. He sounds very intimidating.

This is why I don't even answer my phone unless it's friends/family or if I'm specifically expecting a call. If it's important enough, the person will leave a voicemail.

It's come down to if certain obscure area codes like 774 or 775 call me, I know they're scammers.

And another scam I have heard of. Caller says This is the IRS or Social Security, our records indicate that you have overpaid your taxes for the past however many years, and we owe you thousands or dollars, or if Social Security we have been underpaying you for the past several years and again we owe you thousands of dollars. Please give us your bank account number and routing number and we will direct deposit these amounts into your account. And of course they get into the account and wipe it out. Almost an easier scam than the we will arrest you scam because people will more easily fall for a money for nothing promise. Everyone be careful.

I keep hearing about the computer scam. Calling people on the phone telling them they have malware or a virus. Acting like they work for Microsoft.

I've gotten several calls regarding the IRS scam, and they have left several threatening messages on my answering machine. I should be arrested any day. I guess I owe the IRS and U.S. Customs a shit load of money. I hope they accept third party checks.

IRS scammers called today & left voice mail saying that they were suing.

Message: call 360-663-4445 (Washington state) back to discuss the lawsuit that the Internal Revenue Services [they don't even get the name of the IRS right] were filing against me.

The caller id was 260-925-0000, not the 360 area code number that they wanted me to call back on.

At least so far I've not contacted IRS, FTC, or police. They probably have numerous complaints. What good would it do?

Oh man, that's a good one haha! Will try that next time the IRS or Windows computer scammers try and call.

We had several cases where people had actually fallen for the scam. What they try to get you to do is go to the nearest place they sell pre-paid cards (Green Dot), buy a set amount and then read them the card information.

One person was in line at a pharmacy attempting to purchase the cards while on the phone with the scammer and FCPD happened to reach the person just in time before they purchased the cards. He attempted to talk to the scammer informing them that it was the police and the guy hung up.

Another number is 703 828 0424. Someone actually picks up the phone. Typical IRS scam. I wish I had a throw away phone, and I would record it and put it on You Tube.

I started getting those calls around THanksgiving. It was one thing to hear it on my machine after getting home from work, but they started calling at 6 AM. I will admit it was funny to hear the heavy Indian accent identify himself as John Callahan. I called up my phone provider and had the numbers blocked, and never heard from them since.

Actually, these phone terrorists are getting away with extortion because policing systems put telephone scam calls on low priority..my local police now refuses to make reports on them...

The way i see things...its going to take the entire community to stand up to these terrorists..

Or you can do the old standby... IM SELLING COW DUNG AT A SPCIAL HALF OFF PRICE TODAY ONLY...HOW MANY TONS CAN I PUT YOU DOWN FOR ???

My friend uses her....I NEED TO TALK TO MY BABYDADDY...she is brilliant with this spoof...she changes it up a bit but she always ends it with...WELL, YOURE THE ONE WHO RAPED ME...DONT GET MAD AT ME NOW THAT YOURE A DADDY....i laughed so hard i bout peed myself

Anyhow ...im sure youre getting the idea....its time we start attacking back !!!

Beat them back using their own game

Those phone scammers are bad. If the IRS is really after you, they will send you documents via registered regular mail. The IRS has sent me documents by mail before. Somebody won't call you with a heavy and thick Indian accent.

I've been answering my phone, "Fairfax County Jail!!!" and most of the time they hang up although I get a charge when they have no idea what a "jail" is. One asked to speak to my wife by name and I told him she was in solitary confinement and he'll have to call back on Sundays between 2 and 4 p.m. Another one I've used is "Fairfax County Morgue".
