He said seeing eye dogs and other helping dogs were allowed, The asshole with the bull terrier has a "prescription" for her therapy dog. I left $300 in groceries in the cart and told I would not stand for this bullshit and he better sanitize his dog carts.

At my local Giant there is a plastic owl hanging from the awning by the front door. It looks like a tyto lynching but It seems to keep the birds away from the exits and entrances.

You had asked about how the warehouse stores had gotten all the birds out? I am going to assume that you were speaking about either Home Depot or Lowes? I worked at one of them for 8 yrs and it would disgust you to see some of the crap I would see on top of merchandise and simply just dusted off or blown off, not sanatized or washed at all and i'm talking about open grills, grill accessories that are in the overhead and open to all the droppings you can imagine.
Normally HQ would allow a sonic type device to be installed in the stores which was suppose to drive out all the birds by the high pitch noise it would put out, however it was very expensive in they're eyes, the device was around $500.00, so they stopped providing it to the stores and basically did nothing about it at all.
There was a guy that was allowed in the store after hours who had a pet Hawk. He would release his hawk at night and then before the store opened he would come back to pick it up and take it home after it fattened up on birds all night long. It got rid of alot of birds, however the mess it left behind was just disgusting. There were parts of ripped up birds and blood masses just laying around for anyone to step on or see and bloodied feathers everywhere. The night guys would try to clean up as much as they could find, but much of it went untouched and left for the morning crowd to walk into.
The manager was worried about the health department finding out, so he stopped the hawk guy from being allowed to let his pet feed, so now as far as I know nothing is done at all, they are basically allowed to come and go as they wish. I know there were a couple of other stores that they're guys would come in at night and shoot at them with BB guns, that then became a risk to others and the subject of animal cruelty came up, so they stopped that too.
The birds are basically free to fly the store as they wish, so next time you pick up a grill accessory that isnt packaged, you may want to think twice about buying it.

The Burke Safeway used to be nice, for humans as well as dogs. It had a nice cool quiet ambiance that encouraged you to stay a while and buy a lot of food. Then a few years ago they changed the lighting to a very bright and garish hue. It ruined the experience and I never go there anymore.

Well, I see that opinions are divided. I personally got used to seeing people with small dogs at stores. I understand that they can't leave them outside. As for the big dogs, I haven't noticed them at my local stores. I personally have a big dog and never take her with me when shopping. Of course, I understand that some people worry about sanitizing issues, but if a dog owner takes care of the pet, bathes it, prevents fleas and ticks (I worry about this issue most of all, so always buy Pet express Advantage Multi as it works great), etc., there is nothing to worry about, actually. There is too much dirt and germs around even without dogs.
