Virginia gas tax goes up July 1st, thanks Democrats for not suspending it

Would have been nice to suspend it for 90 days as suggested. $5 on a 20 gallon fill-up would have been small, but better than nothing.

We'd just have to pay it somehow later... Virginia has a balanced budget requirement, if the revenue from gas taxes goes away then something must offset that, if it isn't coming from surplus.

But it's easier than that... go out driving this July 4 weekend and see if anyone gives a crap about gas prices. They're happy to drive around and clog the interstates, I'm happy as a Virginian to have the state collect those gas taxes. Plus it unfairly lets the electric car soyboys off the hook

If you don't want to pay for maintaining Virginia's roads, don't drive. Highway construction and maintenance budgets are horribly underfunded in Virginia. The extra few cents per gallon would be a drop in the bucket of what is needed, but as you say small is better than nothing.

The real crime isn't that the gas tax is going up. Rather it is that badly highway construction and maintenance funds are being diverted to other projects such as bike lanes.
