Hybrids and talk of changing to clean fuels really scared the oil companies.

Wait another four years until we forget about alternative fuel cars and then the oils companies will jack us again.

I had to go the the Lowe's in Woodbridge last night and the Wawa had regular for $1.65, midgrade for $1.75 and premium for $1.99. The Mobil station on 123 in Lorton had regular for something like $1.79.

Good news...gas is going down. Bad news...the economy is experiencing deflation. The price of everything is dropping because demand is dropping. Demand is dropping because people are losing their jobs and businesses can't get credit to buy things. The biggest problem during the Great Depression was deflation.

Mr. K and I were talking about prices going down. We wondered if we had been in an inflationary period for all the time that prices went up, and we just didn't realize it.

I wish I could remember what I learned in Econ 101 all those many years ago. I'm sure I thought,"I'll never use that." And that's why I forgot it. :-/

with gas prices this low, why do they still insist on having 10% ethanol in the gas?

hybrid cars didnt scare them but talk of changing fuels is scaring them. i really think they are scared that obama may actually do something to curb oil usage. did you notice how prices dropped right after the election?

im still going to get a hydrogen fuel car when they become available. i hate oil companies and sending money to the middle east.

Mrs K, you need to stop trying to remember what you learned in Econonics 101, and get back to PRACTICING what you learned in HOME Economics.

A timely article on gas prices and deflation...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27823694/

The U.S. has experienced deflation only three times before...all during depressions or economic panics.

Anybody remember that online gas service that was in the news a couple months ago? The premise was that if you, for example, paid them $3.50 a gallon for 20 gallons, and prices at the pump went $4.50 a gallon, you would have vouchers from them that would get you gas at the pump for $3.50 a gallon.

Those guys must be cleaning up, now.

I remember how brilliant everyone thought Southwest Airlines was when they locked in all their fuel in the futures market. It was brilliant, until fuel prices fell below what they locked their future contracts in at. Now they are the ones who are struggling with costs. You can't win, can you?

Not really. Food prices seem to be the same or going up. There was a recent article about it from MSN. I am sure there are more recent articles about food prices elsewhere.
