Tree removal

I need to have a tree/stump removed from my front yard in Fairfax. It's 40 feet tall with a trunk that is a bit smaller than a fire hydrant. It's easy to access as it's right in the front yard.

I was quoted $1800 which seems really high. I'd rather use a company that insured just in case the tree falls into my neighbors house or something. SO I don't want to use a bunch of day laborers.

Is that price reasonable?

What type of contractor have you considered? The better contractors cost more, but less chance of issues during the removal.

Pay less and roll the dice.

That's a major ripoff, $400 - $600 is about the right price

Get a quote from Precision Tree Services (703) 593-4406 (precisiontreeva.com). They gave me the lowest quote by far when I had tree work done last fall.

The majority of tree services are staffed by fair, reasonable, church-going gentlemen.

You have nothing to worry about.

If the guy giving you your estimate is white, you're going to over pay. I only get bids from people with Latin American accents.

There are many tree removal services that you can ask help for. I know about the best Tree Removal Midlothian VA, if you live near then you can contact them. Or you can even look on the internet for the best one in your area.
