What goes on at the Stratford Motor Lodge in Falls Church?
Posted by: Falls man ()
Date: December 13, 2015 10:47AM

Sometimes I see black chevy suburbans that look like government vehicles parked there in the middle of the day. Last week there was 3 of them.
The motel looks seedy but maybe its nice.

Are the sheets clean? Any evidence of bed bugs? I am thinking about staying there one night next week.

Someone should look into this place. Original post got me thinking. I know that the place is owned by a Muslim family. Maybe the Feds should have a look see. I don't think it is paranoid to what to know what all the black Chevy Suburbans are doing.

No one in San Bernadino called on suspicious activity and look how that turned out.

There is a fantastic Venezuelan restaurant sort of attached to the motel called La Caraquena.

It was featured on some Food Network show.

The arepas and teqenones are to die for. They make a jalapeno salsa (and they won't give me the recipe dammit!) that I could eat with a spoon three meals a day.

Legit fruit milkshakes with actual South American fruits too (batidos? I think), SO GOOD.

You're gonna drop $75-100 for you & your date, and you need a reservation, but it's well worth it.

I love that place. I go there for two nights twice a year. I sit in my room watching the bubble TV and drink huge amounts of canned American beer, I have pizza delivered and I take a short lived break from my horrible existence.
My bitching wife and screaming kids along with my brain dead government job.

Despite what these pathetic Falls Church middle school students will try to tell you, the Stratford is a perfectly fine and ordinary budget motel from the 1960's. Not much has really changed there in 50 years. The facilities are clean, the service is good, and for most people, it's within walking distance of the EFC Metro station. La Caraqueña meanwhile is indeed a small, dive-like, sometimes pricey, but still popular dining spot specializing in South American sandwiches and comfort food as well as very nice margaritas. If that sort of thing sounds appealing, the place would be well worth a try. Black Chevy Suburban not at all required.

You don't sleep any better because of fancy curtains. Safe, clean, and comfortable are important. Access to whatever you are going to be doing during the day is important. You can get all those things for a lot less money than what your "classy" places will want to charge.

The incident began the night of January 18, 2009, when Falls Church Police received a 911 call for a possible abduction and sexual assault. An 18-year-old girl, her boyfriend, and the girl’s cousin, were celebrating the girl’s birthday at the Stratford Motor Lodge, 300 West Broad Street. Over the course of the evening, two women were sexually assaulted, according to police. One of the victims was taken to another hotel outside of the City limits after being assaulted, in order not to have the crime exposed. The victim’s cousin then lied to police about her identity in order to minimize the events.
None of the 12 people present in the motel room that night are City residents. All live in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. Many of those involved are in their 20s, one female is 18 years old and two of the males are 17 years old.

Wow. Pretty weak. You must be immensely stupid or just trolling for attention. Or, I suppose your just flustered after being thoroughly embarrassed here.

The Stratford is set to be razed so there won't be any people staying there in the future. It is set to be an age restricted apartment building of 178 luxury rental units with ground floor retail. You might want to book a room at the Stratford because once those luxury apartments go in, we all know you won't be able to afford to stay at that address!

Just spreading holiday cheer, dumbass. Meanwhile, embarrassed would be actually living in a dump like Falls Church to begin with. Guests at the Stratford are of course only there temporarily. Big win for them.

Hmmm. Sort of like the rest of Falls Church then. They are desperately trying to play catch-up with Ballston, Tysons, and Merrifield, but they are running a very distant fourth among that group. The time to leave FCC was a long time ago.

The median price of a house or a condo that sold in Falls Church in September was $810,000, up 9.3 percent from a year ago and more than double the median price across the region.

The stratford is just a local, seedy motel that anyone who actually lives in the city of falls church kind of ignores. It's just the gross motel next to the Starbucks lol with a good Spanish restaurant attached to it. A couple of families lived there for a few years cause they had kids who went to the falls church city school systems but they couldnt even afford an apartment here.....sad. Crime happens there, but is that any surprise?

Lord knows their days as any sort of SFH-based suburban community went out the window at a point not very late in the last century. That towel was thrown in already quite a long time ago.

That's all developer money, bozo. Here come the cranes! It's too late though. FCC is still destined to play fourth fiddle behind Ballston, Tysons, and Merrifield. And of course, the tiny little 2 square miles of Falls Church City are not remotely large enough to be comparable to other areas in the region such as Fairfax County with its 400 square miles. FCC would be more comparable to places like Ashburn, Brambleton, Cascades, Dranesville, Dunn Loring, Fairfax Station, Floris, Fort Hunt, Franklin Farms, Gainesville, Great Falls, Kings Park West, Kingstowne, Lake Barcroft, Linton Hall, Lowes Island, Mantua, McLean, Montclair, Mount Vernon, Newington, Oakton, Purcellville, South Riding, Vienna, and Wolf Trap. And all of those would rank ahead of FCC in terms of Median Household Income, 2009-2013, according to Census Quick Facts tables. The actual people with actual money have been stepping over FCC for quite a while now. Good move by them.

Hello? People who live in Falls Church City DON'T NEED a hotel there. They already have a place to stay. This is probably a pretty big factor in explaining why they ignore the Stratford.

Oh dear! What they are putting up is copy-cat multi-story, multi-purpose, high-density development of the sort that others have already done better. With a population density surging past 6,500 people per square mile, things are already far too sardine-like to be doing new SFH development. 44% of current FCC housing units are in multi-unit structures (versus 11% in Vienna) and that number is only rising.

More and more, Northern Virginia is becoming a popular retirement destination. Moderate climate, lush green landscapes, amazing amenities, and the dreaded traffic and cost-of-living monsters can be easily tamed once you aren't going to work anymore. We've become a great place to spend your Golden Years.

Yeah, if you're stuck in a shitty situation. Probably went for a killer kitchen with a refi and are now stuck paying for it during your retirement years.

It MIGHT be an OK place to have a condo to come back to, but to make this a 52 week/year retirement destination would be pure hell.

Enjoy your overpriced underutilized kitchen.

Ah! Should have said that the traffic and cost-of-living monsters could be easily tamed by MOST people. There will always be some who just can't handle much of anything financially. Fleeing is the best choice for them. If they can afford it.

True. That's why they'll be stuck retiring in the exact same place they spent their working years. My goodness, just typing that last sentence makes you realize what a pathetic option that is.

As mentioned. NoVa might be a decent place to have a condo to come back to for about 20 weeks a year. Anything beyond that is pathetic. I don't mean to insult the predicament you find yourself in. I'm sure you are trying to make the best of it and spin it in a positive light. However, for the rest of us who have probably succeeded a bit more financially, spending 52 weeks a year in retirement doesn't really appeal to us. Good luck with your situation. Maybe the new year will bring you better fortune.

No doubt a pathetic option for those who've suffered through their entire working lives in the choking dust and grime of some over-crowded, inside-the-Beltway dump. Those of us who have long enjoyed the fresh air, rolling hills, graceful trees, green grass, babbling brooks, and ever-present wildlife found in "God's Little Garden" between 495 and 286 would of course have a very different view of things. (Neighbor's trash cans not included.)

Dream on, penniless one. We all know how often Vienna makes those "Best Places to Live" lists, and the plain facts are that NoVa in general is increasingly being rated as a top place to retire to. Lots of pluses, very few minuses. Fewer still once jerks like you somehow manage to move away.

LMAO. I would never leave NOVA, I work for a defense contractor, do you know how absurdly overpaid I am? If I were to switch locations to Charlotte/LA/Atlanta or another location my pay would drop 15-20% for the same job.

Living here is pretty much a license to steal.

Do you ever feel guilty? Sometimes I do but I am old and I could not hold down a real job anymore.

No part of Arlington is between 286 and 495. Try again.

Your pay would drop 15-20% yet your cost of living would drop 50%. Of course you are too dumb to realize this, fucktard.

What part of "...the plain facts are that NoVa in general is increasingly being rated as a top place to retire to. Lots of pluses, very few minuses. Fewer still once jerks like you somehow manage to move away." left you so completely dazed and confused?

All the immigrants moving into this area have ruined Fairfax County.
Just look at the demographics of the schools.
In a blink of the eye this area has been ruined by the influx of non-whites.

Just look out you front window anytime and watch the color of the people walking up and down the street.

+1 this is exactly what my wife and I do. We sold our SFH for a nice condo only because we did not want to leave our a SFH vacant for months while we are gone. The kids work in the NoVA area and we have family and friends here, we stay here about 4 - 5 months out of the year.

The part where that statement is not supported by the link you provided.

To wit:

"There are more than 100 miles of trails, bike lanes and routes throughout the city, so it's not surprising that residents here embrace a healthy lifestyle and rank high on the wellness index.

Arlington has a low crime rate, and locals can get by without a car. Much of the city is walker-friendly, including areas like Crystal City, Rosslyn and Ballston. The city has ample public transportation, with a handful of metro stops in the area. Neighboring Alexandria is also friendly to walkers."

NoVa "in general" does not fit much of the criteria used by Bankrate to rank Arlington so highly. As pointed ou in the article, Alexandria is similarly situated. The rest of NoVa, not so much.

Simply put, some outside the beltway CDP is not in the same category as Arlington and using the article to support your position is asinine.

Not at all necessary, dim-bulb. The point made was that NoVa in general is more and more being regarded as a first-class retirement destination. Unless you are just plain too dumb to understand grade-school English, the article about Arlington ranking #2 on their top-ten list of US retirement destinations is irrefutable evidence of the fact. Go suck an egg, then shuffle off to Tupelo.

Arlington is just a small part of NoVa. A small part that is pedestrian friendly and has ample public transportation opportunities. Those were the major reasons the author pointed to Arlington as a top retirement destination. Your outside the beltway suburban hell simply does not meet the criteria given for why Arlington is #2. Speaking of #2, you've soiled your pants in this thread.

That's still not even remotely relevant. From Arlington to Winchester, NoVa in general is more and more being regarded as a first-class retirement destination. That's just how it is. Climate, location, culture, landscape, taxes, medical, educational, and transportation infrastructure. The list goes on, and all these things play awfully well in the minds of today's upscale retirees. The fact that you are not in that group and don't want to face these facts is not a term in anyone else's equation.

Except to, you know, the guy that wrote the article touting Arlington as the #2 retirement destination.

Don't get your panties in a twist because you relied on an article that doesn't support your assertion.

Actually, I'd bet the author knew full well that he was contributing to NoVa in general being more and more considered as a first-class retirement destination. After all, he did seem to understand that Metro stations exist outside of Arlington and that the state tax and health care advantages he cited would apply to more counties than just this one. Basically, it seems to me that the only person too dumb to understand how and why the region has been moving up the retirement charts is you.

It applies to all 95 counties and 38 cities in the Commonwealth. Most of them are not located in Northern Virgina.

To answer the OP's question the Stratford and other independent motels in the area are occasionally used by the DOJ to house a witness that has to appear at federal court in Alexandria. They usually get three rooms. I love the soaps they have there, makes me feel really clean.

And beyond that, he was undoubtedly not the same sort of stupid asshole that you are. A person with an IQ above 30 or so would have realized that by rating Arlington so highly, he was in fact endorsing the desirability of the broader region generally. No one who does such work is such a freaking stupid dumbass as to believe that what's true of Arlington would somehow be untrue of areas nearby. Only a total dumbfuck could believe something like that. This of course is where YOU come in.

> It applies to all 95 counties and 38 cities in the Commonwealth.

Once again, totally irrelevant. However much of your undeveloped brain survived being dropped on your head as an infant is not functioning at all well at the present time. As anyone but a mental cripple would know for instance, it is the case that medical infrastructure while being very strong here in NoVa is by comparison pathetic in many other parts of the state. Only a total stupid-shit moron would think that such things were evenly distributed. And again, this is where you come in.

> You just keep digging your hole of stupidity deeper. No wonder

No, I just keep pointing out the plain and simple fact that NoVa in general is being more and more considered as a first-class retirement destination. You keep typing "your" instead of "you're".

I'm sorry to learn of your disability. But the plain and simple fact remains that for a whole variety of reasons, NoVa in general is more and more being considered as a first-class retirement destination. The fact that you are either physically or mentally too feeble to be able to process that does not change things in any way.
