Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I used to hike up Old Rag mountain in Madison county with my dad. Now I would like to take my 2 boys up there. I was told that there is a fee to park and hike the mountain now when before you could just park in the woods anywhere and spend the day.
Will the Federal Govt stop at nothing to gouge it's already over taxed citizens? Doesnt the thousands of dollars I already pay every year in taxes entitle me to enjoy this country's natural beauty?

yep.
they shut down the upper parking lot about 3-4 years ago. even then, you had to pay at the booth down by the large parking lot.

Must be a liberal democrat. Always expecting someone else to pay your way.
Best way to keep the Tea Bagging Confederate Tax Dodging Terrorists who shut down the National Parks off the mountain and protect the natural wonder around Old Rag - charge them a fee and make them park at the bottom in a designated parking area. They're too cheap to pay for the trail and infrastructure maintenance or the Park Service, and too fucking lazy to hike all the way up the mountain.
You don't see too many Tea Bagger plates on the cars around Old Rag any more.

Wimp.
Anyone not hiking Old Rag and Robertson in one day is a pussy.

I suggest you hike the trail at Riverbend park. It's free for the parking and hiking. Nice trail by the Potomac and you don't go drive all the way out to Old Rag.

Without the money that Fairfax people drop off for safekeeping, your local economy out there would be looking kind of sorry/sorrier.

For now. If the National Park Service gets their way (face it, they will), the entrance fees for Shenandoah National Park are going up on May 1 to $25 per vehicle or $12 per individual (hiker, biker, etc.). Locally, the fee at Great Falls Park is going up from $5 per car to $15! If it helps to keep all the cheap foreigners out, it might be a good thing though. The annual national park pass, good for all NPS sites, is staying at $80 so it will be an even better deal now.
