Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I read somewhere she grew up in Virginia. I guess I never would have guessed that because she has such a northern sounding accent. But I wonder if anyone here knows what school she went to in Fairfax?
I posted that Lauren graham was from Fairfax County on an earlier thread about famous people from Fairfax. I believe she went to Langley HS. I used to go to an orthodontist in Annandale caled Dr. Smernoff. This was years ago like in 1975. Lauren was also his patient and had braces from him. Her photos were all over the office as she had been seeing him for orthodontia as well as after care (retainer, etc) She was gorgeous then and she still is. By the way, the Washington Post Style section has an interview with her today. I really liked her in that film "Bad Santa" with Billy Bob Thornton.
Robert, I agree, you need to learn to use search engines. That's one of the reasons people are being mean to you on here. Have you started working out yet??
I have an Ohio accent but some people call it northern. A northern accent is like a new Yorker or someone from New Jersey. Most actors have coaching to remove any trace of a regional accent.
Everyone has a regional accent. The accent that Actors/Actresses have to learn is the Kansas/California accent which is used by newscasters and the media.
Funny, I never heard of that term before, so when I googled it, I found links to other bulletin boards where someone posting as "Meade Skelton" posted the exact same phrase.

Too bad for who? She's a good actress and you can still beat your "meade" watching her, so it's win-win.
Is there really any kind of accent in this area? And I'm referring to the true northern va, not where the worthless state-tax-stealing rednecks live. It's a generic American accent with a whole lot of foreign accents in the mix.
Its a shame that NOVA has changed so much people have forgotten what the natives were really like. Old school Virginians who liked to Fox Hunt, spoke with a very light southern drawl, and drank mint juleps.

So glad someone finally bumped this thread - I have been waiting almost 15 years. Thanks
