HUGE gas price difference one county over

The Sunoco at Braddock Road & Roanoke River road is charging $3.41 for regular tonight, but only 14 miles away in Manassas, Exxon is only charging $3.12! The question is, why does such a short distance reflect such a large difference in price?

I stopped in Phillipsburg, NJ two days ago (off I-78). Every gas station at the exit was charging $3.09 cash/$3.19 credit for a gallon of 87 octane unleaded gas . . . with an attendant pumping the gas. NOVA definitely pays a hidden tax for gas.

This has always been the way. Gas is always cheaper in more rural (less affluent) areas.

Has nothing to do with gouging or anything though. Of course not. Its "supply and demand"...

Same reason a 2,500 sqft home in Manastyass would cost $300k but $600k in Fairfax.

Right! Never fill up for cheap before you get on the PA Turnpike. That would be stupid. And when you return a rental car, always drive all the way to the airport before refilling the tank.

Yeah, they'll probably honor today's price for you, even if they've changed it a dozen times by then.

I'm currently in New Jersey and could be heading up that in that direction as early as this weekend.

--------------------------

including the price of inflation ($4/gal v. $1/gal)

the price of a convenient gas station ALWAYS had that price swing

never was a time when they didn't, the price of convenience

Different counties have different tax rates for gas. Some towns or cities also have their own taxes.

I just head down Rt 123 and cross over to PW county, as gasoline and diesel are MUCH cheaper in PW county, except at the Shell just over the river heading south. Those guys want Fairfax County prices, for sure!
