CENTREVILLE, Va. - Drivers traveling toward Washington, D.C. on Monday morning might be a little confused if they pay attention to the lines on the road way. Temporary line striping put into place over the weekend along a portion of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 66 in Centreville came up, making a mess of the roadway.
All lanes of I-66 are open, but they're anything but straight. Some of the lines are broken, while others curve, and one goes directly into the wall along the side of the road. The view from SKYFOX above the scene showed drivers appeared to be using caution to get around the area, and there were no accidents as a result.
VDOT spokesperson Jenny McCord tells FOX 5 the temporary striping came up for some reason, and they're not sure if that was caused by rain. She says a contractor is going out to fix the mess after the Monday morning commute, and they apologize for the inconvenience. The taping was put down as part of a bridge rehabilitation project that is going on along the Route 29 overpass.
Drivers should slow down as they move through the area, and try to follow the person in front of them to stay in what should be their lane.
