If Fairfax County collects your trash, you are stuck with them and might as well learn to live with it. Actually, compared with Montgomery County, they are a pleasure to deal with. Forget about open fires, such as in the backyard, as well.

Just scope out a couple of neighbors who always put their trash out at night, and add to their pile. We seem to be entering a new period where it is normal to expect people to pay for stuff when you don't want to pay it anymore, just glom off them.

Fairfax should just go socialist and offer county trash pick up...just build it into our taxes!

They'd have to do it through a sales tax I'd imagine. I don't know of any other way they could raise taxes on all the citizenry to cover it. But it would be a good idea... I believe City of Alexandria provides collection and recycling for all residents.

Take your trash to the transfer station yourself, costs a few bucks each time, but considerably cheaper.

Fairfax County has been picking up trash in the older parts of the County forever. Places like McLean, Falls Church....the County trash trucks are gold in color. They tried to stop providing the service some years ago but the hue and cry that went up forced them to back off of it.

I believe the fee is tacked onto the owners' real estate taxes. I don't know what they charge, but I imagine it's less than the commercial trash haulers....hence the outcry when they tried to stop it.

no. however, if you wish to get rid of your trash, there are public recycle and trash centers.

The recycle centers, like at Wakefiled doesn't have trash pick-up.

So, Mr. Gravis where would one find the nearest one?

Dude if you have a pick up go to the closest transfer station once a week. Sorry to say I dont feel like googling it for you but I am sure you can type fairfax county transfer station.

btw open fires for warmth or cooking are entirely legal within Fairfax County. Want a fire in your back yard go ahead. You cannot burn your garbage but windfall works great. Keep a hose nearby and enjoy.

Fairfax County currently charges $330/year for weekly trash and recycling pickup. The charge is paid along with the real estate taxes semi-annually (Jul 28, Dec 5).

There is one on West Ox Road off I66 across from the Costco Plaza, or you can go to the Lorton Landfill.

Bag up your trash and drive it to an apartment complex that has dumpsters.
