in ancient rome 1st 50 years of law, judges became "free" paid by the government
immediately in response to citizen complaints: the law was written that any judge who was controlled by money by a major politiican or military person WOULD BE PUT TO DEATH

to the juror fact, to the judge law
selecting a jury based on political standing is illegal
the the prosecution and defense select their "peers" and really the Constitution says "judged by peers" not judged by asshole political aparatus known to vote democrat for seizure of government power (this was also a death penalty in Greek democrat politics, history says)

I recently sat through pretrial criminal motions in one of our area courts. The defense requested and was granted the right to conduct jury voir dire with the potential jurors not wearing masks. During the trial though jurors are still going to be required to wear masks. The defense requested and was granted the right to have all witnesses testifying before the court do so without wearing masks. Both of these requests were based on the argument that in order to judge people's candor it would be necessary to see their full face.
I must conclude that the OP is not that familiar with court practices in former times.
