She repeatedly refused to show her license and then refused to get out of the car, leading to her arrest."

Omeish’s speech also focused on “equity,” a concept in K-12 education referring to forced equal outcomes. Fairfax County recently watered down the admissions criteria for its top-ranked STEM magnet school, Thomas Jefferson High School For Science and Technology, because too many Asians performed well on entrance exams that tested whether the students knew STEM.

A poll this month of Fairfax County voters found that most do not support schools being used to push racial activism like critical race theory. The survey also found that majorities of parents in all political parties oppose the elimination of advanced academics in the name of equity.

Where have you been the past 25-30 years? Equity is already the norm in a very large number of Fairfax County elementary schools. Omeish is correct to argue we should stop shielding the favored schools from the same burden which has affected so many of our schools for a long time, and allow students the same educational opportunities regardless of the school they are assigned to.

Where Omeish fucks up is with her remedy. Kids progress educationally at different rates. A top performing kid at Mount Vernon should have the same educational opportunities as a top performing kid at Langley. However the top performing kid at either of these schools is going to be performing at a level far above many who are the same age as him or her. Once we hit a certain level, and I would say it is not later than the end of 6th grade, there is no good reason for holding back the top performing students to let the slower learners catch up.

To those who say it isn't fair or equal I say this. If you want your underperforming kid to take Algebra in 7th grade, I say fine. Your kid will be expected to perform at the same level as every other 7th and 8th grade kid in that classroom. If your kid cannot, then your kid fails, same standard that applies to every other kid in that classroom.

I don't think in the strictest sense Ms. Omeish believes in forced equal outcomes. I think what she suffers from is a Pollyanna belief that if we throw enough resources at them the slower developing students can emerge from our educational system as well off as the faster developing students. Which of course is crap. No matter how many resources you pump into it a Ford F150 just isn't going to be competitive at the Indy 500. However again it is nothing new in our educational system. What is new is how far Ms. Omeish is willing to push it.

If there is to be any hope of removing Ms. Omeish from the School Board, her critics need to move away from her Islam and her tenuous connections with 911. For every one of you who is revolted by her social rhetoric there are two who find it refreshing or are cheering her on. Instead confront her on the merits. Her father got to be a prominent doctor and she got a law degree from Georgetown. This didn't happen as a result of denying her and her father educational options. It resulted from giving her and her father educational options. That is what FCPS should be doing.

I am all for equal access. Everyone gets the same level/opportunity of education. 2+2 is the same everywhere. Teachers need to be competent. Stay away from this social bullshit and get back to the basics. If your parents fail to raise you in a responsible way, that is on your family. The rest who study can move forward. Real equality, with outcomes that put the burden on parents to actually manage their kids and teachers to teach the kids in a neutral way.

We have never had a truly neutral education system and we probably never will. Respect for the diversity of opinions and beliefs is probably a more realistic goal.
