Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Looking at the maps, Brood XIX does not seem to reach this far up and into NoVa. Looks like the closest is maybe King George or Caroline counties.
Now if you want a cicada freakout, think back to 2004 when Brood X appeared. They were everywhere. And I mean EVERYWHERE. My dog would eat them like candy. Made for awful poop cleanup duty.

The Great Southern Brood has a 13-year cycle and last emerged in 1998. Most of this brood is on the Illinoisan-age glacial plain. Brood XIX also occurs in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. They will emerge during 2011
That does not disprove anything I said. Virginia is a large state with significant variable climates and zones. What happens in Brunswick County may not happen in Fairfax County.
Every map that I have seen on the Brood XIX shows the emergence to be situated south of the DC area.
And, your reference to its appearance in St. Mary's county seems to reinforce that fact and the statement that I made earlier which was "maybe King George or Caroline counties". These counties are, surprise, surprise, right across the river from St. Mary's county.
If you had said that they have been found in Montgomery or Price Georges counties, then I think there would have been more relevancy.

Provide the quote where I stated that I was certain that they would not be in Maryland.

I said northern virginia; I said nothing about Maryland in that quote. My reference to Maryland in that post.
You need to lay off the afternoon hooch.

Cicadas are freaking awesome. The last time they were in town, it was like an alien invasion at night. The sound was incredible, almost electronic and...everywhere.
I looked at the maps and superimposed them. They're actually in relatively close agreement - with the exception of a gap in Mississippi which seems odd.
Here ya all go for your consideration.

No, look at Maryland, look at North Carolina, Georgia, these maps show very different ranges. Nice try though.
