Coalfire Pizza on Old Keene Mill To Open at old Shiro site

It's an "artisan" ($$$) pizza chain out of Chicago. Any good?
Construction at the new Burke location has been incredibly slow.

Nope, not the one in Chicago. It's a chain in Maryland, that started in Ellicott City a few years ago: http://www.coalfireonline.com/index.php

I've eaten at the original in Ellicott City as well as the one in Gaithersburg, and their pizzas are awesome. Glad to see they're expanding into Virginia!

The website says coming in Spring 2014, so they're taking their sweet time.

I heard July, so count on September. Fairfax County permitting . . .

Sucks. They have an aversion to cheese instead relying on a New Haven style crust. Trouble is they overlook the pizza to the point it crumbles on the plate.

Coal Fire opened tonight 9/18. The have a full bar and a couple of beers on draft. Pizza was good, if not a little pricey. Much better than Dominos, Papa John's, Pizza Hut crap. Nice sit down Pizza Joint.
