Question for Democrats on the topic of guilt

Back in the day, slavery was legal. I'm not saying it was right. But, it was what it was. When slavery was made illegal and blacks were freed, there were of course some parts of the population who didn't follow the law. Bad people. Again, not fair to blacks.
Fast forward a really long time. Those people are dead. Ancestors are dead. And today, people in the US are against slavery worldwide. Nobody alive today had anything to do with slavery.
And yet, the left feels that today we should pay for the actions of complete strangers who were part of something wrong.
20, 30, 40ish years ago (maybe longer), some of you had parents, uncles, aunts, and other relatives who committed crimes like DUI and maybe worse. These crimes were committed before you were born.
Why are you not guilty of those crimes? Why shouldn't you be held accountable for those crimes? If your dead great grandfather had a DUI, shouldn't that reflect on your DMV record and your insurance rates go through the roof? Afetr all, you are related to him.
