DOJ lawyer Bruce Ohr was told Russia had Trump "over a barrel" in 2016

A senior Justice Department lawyer says a former British spy told him at a breakfast meeting two years ago that Russian intelligence believed it had then-candidate Donald Trump "over a barrel,"

Everyone knows that Republicans initiated and paid for the Steele Dossier.

Per your left-wing propaganda mouthpiece:

After Mr. Trump secured the nomination, Fusion GPS was hired on behalf of Mrs. Clinton’s campaign and the D.N.C. by their law firm, Perkins Coie, to compile research about Mr. Trump, his businesses and associates — including possible connections with Russia. It was at that point that Fusion GPS hired Mr. Steele, who has deep sourcing in Russia, to gather information.

And just for the record:

There has been no public corroboration of the salacious allegations against Mr. Trump, nor of the specific claims about coordination between his associates and the Russians.

The truth is hard... please keep up.

Who paid for it?
During the Republican primaries, a research firm called Fusion GPS was hired by The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative website, to unearth potentially damaging information about Mr. Trump. The Free Beacon — which was funded by a major donor supporting Mr. Trump’s rival for the party’s nomination, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida — told Fusion GPS to stop doing research on Mr. Trump in May 2016, as Mr. Trump was clinching the Republican nomination.

You left out the part where Fusion's work for the Free Beacon had nothing to do with Steele or the dumb "dossier." It just happened to have also used Fusion to dig up dirt on the candidates. Which is what Fusion does - dig up or make up shit to build smear campaigns around and promote stories, true or not, to media and its connections in government and the political world for the benefit of it's clients. Which is exactly it did in the case of the dumb "dossier."

October 27, 2017 7:02 pm

Since its launch in February of 2012, the Washington Free Beacon has retained third party firms to conduct research on many individuals and institutions of interest to us and our readers. In that capacity, during the 2016 election cycle we retained Fusion GPS to provide research on multiple candidates in the Republican presidential primary, just as we retained other firms to assist in our research into Hillary Clinton. All of the work that Fusion GPS provided to the Free Beacon was based on public sources, and none of the work product that the Free Beacon received appears in the Steele dossier. The Free Beacon had no knowledge of or connection to the Steele dossier, did not pay for the dossier, and never had contact with, knowledge of, or provided payment for any work performed by Christopher Steele. Nor did we have any knowledge of the relationship between Fusion GPS and the Democratic National Committee, Perkins Coie, and the Clinton campaign.

Representatives of the Free Beacon approached the House Intelligence Committee today and offered to answer what questions we can in their ongoing probe of Fusion GPS and the Steele dossier. But to be clear: We stand by our reporting, and we do not apologize for our methods. We consider it our duty to report verifiable information, not falsehoods or slander, and we believe that commitment has been well demonstrated by the quality of the journalism that we produce. The First Amendment guarantees our right to engage in news-gathering as we see fit, and we intend to continue doing just that as we have since the day we launched this project.

OP has kindergarten-level reasoning skills.

Claim:
Everyone knows that Republicans initiated and paid for the Steele Dossier.

OP reading comprehension is poor. Article states STEELE was not even hired to work for Fusion GPS until AFTER the Washington Free Beacon ended their business with Fusion GPS. The fact the the Washington Free Beacon used Fusion GPS for oppo research has NOTHING to do with the STEELE DOSSIER. Not to mention it is not obvious that the Washington Free Beacon is "Republicans."

Not mention even if the OP statement was true it would still be a fact that the Clinton Campaign and the DNC did in fact pay for the STEELE DOSSIER. Thusly OP is either a retard or a troll. Or both.

A Justice Department lawyer whose ties to the infamous dossier about President Donald Trump and Russia has drawn the ire of Republicans told House lawmakers that he was told Russian intelligence thought they had the then-candidate "over a barrel" during the 2016 campaign, a source with knowledge of the testimony told CNN.

Our DC office building also houses a major newspaper. The reporters told me they heard the Russians had Hillary over a barrel. She asked them to make sure she losses, but to make it look like she really wanted to win.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has released two newly-declassified documents related to government surveillance abuses against the Trump campaign in 2016.

The first document, withheld from public view until now, is a 57-page summary of a three-day FBI interview in January 2017 with Christopher Steele’s so-called “Primary Sub-source” in the anti-Trump allegations and "dossier."

According to the analysis by Sen. Graham's office:

The document reveals that the primary “source” of Steele’s election reporting was not some well-connected current or former Russian official, but a non-Russian based contract employee of Christopher Steele’s firm. Moreover, it demonstrates that the information that Steele’s primary source provided him was second and third-hand information and rumor at best.
Critically, the document shows that Steele’s “Primary Sub-source” disagreed with and was surprised by how information he gave Steele was then conveyed by Steele in the Steele dossier.

Document number two, also withheld from public view until now, takes apart a New York Times article written by Michael Schmidt, Mark Mazzetti, and Matt Apuzzo.

Comments made by then-FBI agent Peter Strzok undercut a litany of claims made in the Times article, which was entitled: "Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contact With Russian Intelligence."

A conservative online newspaper said Friday that it is the previously unknown organization that hired a firm to conduct opposition research on then-candidate Donald Trump, which eventually turned into the controversial Steele dossier.

The Washington Free Beacon said in a statement that since its launch in 2012 it "has retained third party firms to conduct research on many individuals and institutions of interest to us and our readers."

"In that capacity, during the 2016 election cycle we retained Fusion GPS to provide research on multiple candidates in the Republican presidential primary, just as we retained other firms to assist in our research into Hillary Clinton," the statement from Free Beacon editor Matthew Continetti and chairman Michael Goldfarb said.

The Free Beacon said all the work provided to it by Fusion GPS was from public sources, and "none of the work product that the Free Beacon received appears in the Steele dossier."

Fusion GPS was later hired by an attorney representing the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, it was revealed this week. Fusion GPS formally hired former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele after it was hired by the law firm working with the DNC and Clinton campaign, a source familiar with the matter told NBC News.

There is an idiot propagandist poster in this thread that is incapable of understanding that by the time Christopher Steele began doing any work on the anti-Trump research the Republican money was long gone. No work comprising any of the actual "Steele Dossier" was funded in any part by Republican money. Basically the company that hired Steele was doing oppo research for many parties. It's like saying if you hire a hitman to kill someone and they drive to the crime scene in a Camry they were hired by Toyota to do the hit. It makes about that much sense.
