I am frustrated with the Washington Post
Posted by: Inquisitive One ()
Date: July 16, 2014 06:48AM

Am I alone with this but customer service no longer exists with this silly company. I have not received the hard copy by their committed delivery time for YEARS and when you call to complain and nothing changes. When the electronic version became available I just started using that option but now there are endless broken links, the site is running slower and the electronic version is becoming available later and later.

I completely agree and cancelled my subscription to the paper. Now if I want to read it, I go online but am doing it less and less.

I grew up with the daily newspaper, worked on Capitol Hill and am addicted to political news regardless of whether it has a conservative or liberal slant.

I cancelled Post delivery a few years ago when they switched to a new billing system. It was like magazine subscriptions. The time frame you're paying for is not clear.

The WaPo is a dinosaur heaed for the scrap heap. The new owner is not going to spend the money to make this paper viable.

What? No word yet about how inadequate The Post is as birdcage liner? Stupid right-wing dumbfucks. The Post has a right-of-center editorial stance and while its news operations have suffered some under the pressures of adjusting to a new media age, they still crush tiny little seat-of-the-pants garage operations such as The Politico, a plainly rightist rag that takes most of its actual news from the likes of Yahoo and old-media Washington area TV stations.

We receive a bill in the mail from The Post every quarter. We write a check and send that back to them, including a tip for the carrier. We could do this on-line, but don't. We could also choose longer or shorter billing cycles than quarterly, but haven't. We have had no problems with customer service. Of course, aside from last Spring when area foxes began making off with the papers for use as den liner, we have had very little reason to deal with them. Almost without fail, the paper is in the driveway by 5:45 AM. I go out and get it. On rainy days, it is double-bagged to keep it from getting wet.

The Post is of course not the only quality news source in the world, but it is far and away the quality leader among DC area papers. It is nice to have a broad-ranging and reasonably well-written newspaper to turn to each morning. It makes one better and more broadly informed. The other rags around simply make you duller and more stupid, meaning that you'll fit in just fine at dumbed-down FFXU.

Anyone who forces a bird to read the Post should be charged with animal cruelty.

One fires up a grill, not a golf cart. The term "walking distance" meanwhile strongly implies that walking is somehow involved here. How could you have failed to pick up on that? A gerbil would have gotten it.

Very few driveways in Fairfax are NOT walking distance, genius We all know how highly we think of yourself. If only the real thing came even close to matching your perception.

You seem to know a bit about gerbils - big surprise there! LoLz

You might pass that word along to the golf cart arsonist.

There are few here who know much of anything at all. That's the sort of thing that can happen when you read The Politico instead of a real newspaper.

Just the basics. Of course, that might seem like quite a lot to you.

Your presence here adds to the number of uninformed. I mean what was that 40K sqft lot like in Merrifield? LoLz. Was the structure renting for
$35-$40/sqft/month? LoLz.

If you don't want to be tagged as an insane babbler, you might want to cut back on the insane babble. To recap: Billing and customer service with The Post are perfectly fine. Overall, it's not as strong a paper as it once was, but it still kicks the shit out of the slack-jawed local competition. The paper regularly lands within walking distance of my door at an appropriately early hour. I go out and get it. The rest of your diversionary babble in this thread would qualify you for outpatient and perhaps more intensive care at the Woodburn Center. 703-573-0523. Call and make an appointment. There can be light at the end of the tunnel. You just need to reach out for it.

All of which, of course, had what to do with the OP's question? Oh, that's right, absofuckinglutely nothing.

Over here in the real world, there were half a dozen posts in addition to that of the OP to talk about. Though not yet one re birdcage liner. The knee-jerk slobberer (was it you?) with that comment came along later -- as had been anticipated. The rest simply sets the record straight with regard to The Post and its services. Just the facts, ma'am. Some people of course are neither good nor comfortable with facts.

These people are on their way over to your house. Yes -- they're coming to take you away. To the funny farm where life is beautiful ALL the time. So you be happy to see these nice young men in their clean white coats 'cause they're coming to take you away.

Well, this thread degenerated in typical FFXU fashion. Anyway, I applaud the Post for doing as well as they do under the circumstances. Nonetheless, I have had some problems with timely delivery and missed papers. What bothers me most is that so many obvious errors are not picked up before publication, plus the superficiality of some of the content. Guess the editorial staff has been trimmed to accommodate budget constraints.

Seeing as 90% of the U.S. media is simply regurgitating the leftwing Obama propaganda, the WaPo is redundant and unnecessary. Read any media outlet that carries AP or Reuters stories, and you'll get all the heavily slanted coverage you need to provide false validation for your commie ideology.

Moron,
The post is a rightwing publication. When MS Grahm died it swung well to the right. Clearly you don't know how to read and just spout out what Rush says like it is fact. So go ahead and take all you news from an obese impotent drug addict who is most likely a closeted self hating gay based on all his problems with women.

No, it isn't. Stupid low-life goober dumbfucks are common here, as you and your worthless "pals" so regularly and thoroughly demonstrate. Thoughtful, intelligent, well-educated, and well-informed people are quite the exception here. Thank God for the few of them we have!

This isn't a problem of The Post. It's a problem of the 24-hour news cycle. There is a premium on getting stories to the website version quickly. Timeliness is given the advantage over its chief rival, accuracy. Though not all, many stories are then simply lifted from the website version as the print-deadline arrives. This can fall before a writer has been able to correct any haste-makes-waste errors that were in his first-draft online work.

> ...plus the superficiality of some of the content.

You can blame that on the superficiality of the audience. Advertisers pay for dumbfuck eyeballs just as willingly as for intelligent eyeballs. Any for-profit operation will have no choice but to throw some red meat to the pathetic dumbfucks.

> Guess the editorial staff has been trimmed to
> accommodate budget constraints.

Editing takes time, and time is money. The plan to prevent errors and screw-ups from ever appearing has been replaced by a plan to go back and fix stuff (as necessary) after the fact. Again, this is not a problem of The Post. It is a problem of the industry at large, and many places are much worse at this than The Post is.

No, it isn't. But they have too often fallen into the trap of believing that failure to report on made-up right-wing nonsense stories is somehow evidence of a "liberal bias". The proper bias of course is one that favors truth over outright garbage, regardless of the politics of the garbage manufacturer. This misguided notion that a 50-50 balance between truth and falsehood is preferable to 100-0 has led The Post to include many absolute nonsense right-wing stories.
