I have not watched conventions for some time. 1968 was the last time a party went into the convention without its presidential candidate decided. More recently the trend has been to name the VP candidate before the convention as well. Conventions today are not about choosing the ticket. They are coronations.

Following the conclusion of the convention, CNN contributor Amanda Carpenter asked how emotional the quadrennial gathering of Democrats made viewers.
