That is outdated information from months ago. in Germany many cities made masks mandatory at different times, and examining this data researchers realized the mask orders ruduced infections by 40%. this isn't idealize lab conditions, this is real world data including improper seals, old masks, human error etc. 40% reduction.
And since the average person with covid infects more than one other person, for every less infection the people they would infect don't get infected, and the people who those people would pass it on to don't get infected, and so on and so on.

Calm down everyone. All the tests to date only form hypothesis to be tested by a Randomized Clinical Trial. The only RCT for source control of SARS-COV-2 was done by Denmark. The results will be published next month.
Of course, that RCT used surgical face masks exclusively. If it shows those masks are not effective, then cloth face masks of random materials, random designs, and random fit....
