Man arrested on child molesting charges
Sheriff’s deputies in Bedford County arrested a former Woodstock resident Sept. 22 after a Shenandoah County grand jury indicted him recently on charges linked to the molestation of two 6-year-old girls.
Maj. Scott Proctor of the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office said John McGee Bohen, 58, formerly of 84 Gunn Lane, was transported to the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail where he is being held without bond.
“He was taken into custody without incident,” Proctor said of Bohen’s arrest.
The grand jury indicted Bohen on five counts each of aggravated sexual battery on a child less than 13 years old and taking indecent liberties with a child less than 15 years old.
Proctor said the victims are girls, both 6 years old at the time of the alleged offenses. Proctor said the most recent alleged offenses were committed against one victim in 2014 but Bohen is also accused of molesting another girl in 2004.
Proctor said the Sheriff’s Office began its investigation in February after receiving a report of a sexual assault against a juvenile. The investigation into the 2014 incident led authorities to uncover evidence of a similar crime in 2004, Proctor said.
Aggravated sexual battery against a child less than 13 years old carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison for each conviction. Taking indecent liberties with a child less than 15 years old carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years for each conviction.
