Who remembers........Cedar Crest Country Club skate half pipe?

That place kicked ass. Back then Centreville was the boonies. Lost my virginity there one night when I was like 15 to a skater babe/ramp tramp.

Skating, listening to live music, and smoking weed! Oh how the world has changed.

Skate park ramp tramps were the best! I feel sorry teens nowadays that are glued to their computers and phones. How do they have fun anymore?

Just watched a great documentary on the ramp on Amazon called Blood and Steel, Cedar Crest Country Club. Does anybody have any information on where this ramp was located? I have been searching Historic Aerials and can't seem to find any remnants of a skate ramp. This thing looked pretty massive.
Lot's of skaters from all over the world would come here including Tony Hawk and lot's of local bands would play here. Ian MacKaye hung out here from Fugazi. Bad Brains played here. GWAR and Dave Grohl played here with his band Scream.
Surprised there aren't more threads in here about it. There were some massive parties here. I've lived in NOVA my whole life and never heard of it until today. Would love to hear from people who were there.

I went out there last weekend and found some remnants of the skate ramp. It's pretty over grown. Found the concrete slab. Couple of sawed off telephone poles, what i think is a remnant of the ramp (Which I took with me) and lot's of random pieces of wood and old beer cans. I was able to find the location with the historic aerials website. This place was still standing as of 2002! but as you can see it was demolished by 2006.

Just some of the things I found. It would be better to go back in winter time as the place is pretty overgrown....

That first band is Six Feet Under. I assume the second one is GWAR?

Who funded it? That is some serious construction. It's not scrap shit stolen from new home sites pieced together. It would have been thousands of dollars in materials and labor.

Duh. Skimmed the article too fast the first time. That's an awesome Dad to have allowed his son to do that.

I probably last went out there around 1990. Maybe a bit later, but definitely went there in summer of 1990. Fun place, good times.

The owner of CCCC allowed his son to build it, and it was quite a distance from "the club", as I recall. I remember driving back and then parking in the grass, then walking to the woods where the ramp was located. It was a gorgeous sight, and the sound that ramp made was unforgettable.

I recall an Allis Chalmers Bulldozer was used to clear the land. Why I still remember that over 30 years later, who knows.

I went up there today and went to the spot where I thought it would be but didn't find anything. I am wondering if anyone who has visited the place could provide some direction or detail as to where to go once you get to the cul de sac at the end of Sudley Rd.

Here are the geographic coordinates on google maps. Also some screen grabs from Aerial Photos showing the half pipe, its location in a 1990 photo and the same area in a 2019 photo. Basically about 175-200 feet due South of the house at the top of the third photo.

Joe Costantini,

Your pinpointed location on Google maps is exactly the place where I found it.

What website did you go to find the 1990 image? I did a Google search for Aerial Photos, but didn't find anything....got a link??

I worked at Cedar Crest CC for many years as a teenager. Damn, it was awesome. Took part and saw some crazy shit out there. The owner, I can’t recall his name, was a complete douchebag. Just a nasty guy that was more like a dictator to all. But the half pipe brought in some fun experiences. Sex, drugs, skating, and music was awesome! And it always entered into the Country Club. After hours after. Working there would be the best as a bunch of us workers ( gold club employees, waitresses, waiters, life guards, etc would always stay on the property and just party all night after work. Venture to the half pipe.

Not to member the golf outings there were free for all’s. We would have strip joints having outings and some great stuff would happen at those. But dudes would drink like crazy out there and golf carts would end up in ponds and the creek. It was just so different than the country clubs now. Prolly the last of its kind.

I used the Fairfax County Aerial Photography site for the 1990/2019 photos. It is not very user friendly, but play around with it and if you want I can write up some step by step intructions on how I found the halfpipe. Have fun. It is a great resource. Just wish someone would put it into a GUI that was easier to manipulate.

Awesome, thanks dude! Been using Historic Aerials for years, but some of their years are absolute crap. This viewer fills in the gaps very nicely :D
