It is because they keep doing more testing. Virginia's seven-day-moving average, which tracks the number of cases as a ratio of the amount of testing, is definitely falling.

90% of the deaths are of people who'd have died of other causes within a few weeks anyway, so the real mortality rate of deaths due solely to the chinese flue is far, far smaller. Less than that of the common flu.

The current US death rate from covid is 0.026%. The US death rate from flu in the 2017-18 season was 0.015%. While I agree with you that the covid death numbers are inflated, I don't agree that the actual covid number is far smaller than the flu rate.

There's no scientific proof that a homemade mask is effective against the virus. Moreover, no one knows the virus load necessary to cause COVID-19, and no one knows how much a homemade mask made of random materials will reduce the viral load.
A mask represents one of several things: (1) the triumph of hope over science, (2) a belief that the government is always right, or (3) a desire for a sense of moral superiority over non-mask wearers.

The only purpose of a mask is to prevent a sneeze or cough from blowing possibly infected virus particles across a much larger area or multiple store aisles. To block something as small as a virus particle incoming means the mask would need be so effective you would suffocate in minutes.
