Was thinking about taking the kids down to DC to see the fireworks this year. Then I saw the display is expected to last approximately 15 minutes! WTF??? 15 minutes isn't even worth the hour+ to get down there on metro, dealing with security, fighting the crowds and the 2 hours+ to get back. Other major cities fireworks displays (Baltimore, Philly, NY, Boston) last at least 30 minutes! WTF is wrong with DC!!!!!

Are the fireworks at Lake Fairfax or Fairfax High School longer and better than DCs?

DC fireworks last 17 minutes, and it's a cluster fuck..Go to wtop they have a list of places that have a good fireworks display.

Please be aware of triggering someone's PTSD when playing with fireworks.

The Capitol Fourth fireworks will set off well over 30 tone of explosives. Most major shows have a few dozen to perhaps a hundred large-diameter shells. On the Mall, they will set off thousands.

Unfortunately it looks like we're going to be storm-free today. There's nothing funnier than storms rolling through DC the evening of July 4th. They evacuate the entire monument area, where thousands of idiots show up early in the day just to get a good spot. (Then they just sit there all day pretending they're not bored.) Everyone loses their spot and then it's a free-for-all once the storms pass.

Sigh. Maybe next year. :-)

but the fireworks themselves are always made in communist china

after i saw that, i went to the dc display and screamed "make mao tse bangbangs ROUDER!"

was roundly booed for doing so

The DC fireworks are just part of the experience. You have to look at it as a day on the Mall.

Plenty of hot bodies to check out and events to attend. Local fireworks are just that... fireworks and that's all.

I went to DC with a bunch of adults. We spent the day at some adult parties. Hit a couple of bars, enjoyed some crabs and then watched the fireworks from a roof top. Plus got so some nice titties.
