Why do people INSIST on saying "utilizing" when "using" works?

With a limited amount of time in a day, how much time could be saved by using SIMPLE words.

"Run" as a synonym for have/own/use is just as bad....as in "I run a John Deere 337X mower......I run a Stihl 330 chainsaw."
