No shit, right? I don't know why people insist on bagging their grass. I quit using a lawn service when a lawn guy told me that if you mulch your grass it will get damn near as many nutrients from the breakdown of the grass clippings as it will from the shit they spray on your lawn. Granted, you still have to deal with your own weeds and such, but my lawn looked just fine for the 10 years I mulched it. Plus it is less work and you are not contributing chemical pollution to the Chesapeake watershed.

The truth is that not collecting cut grass and leaving it on the lawn is definitely not producing much nitrogen or fertilizing your lawn to any significant degree. But it won't hurt either and is probably better to save space in landfills for real trash.

Naaaa... Only if you don't do it right. I've mulched my lawn exclusively for +20 years and it looks as good or better than my neighbors' using lawn services. Better in hot dry summer I think because of more built up organic matter in the soil over the years vs mostly just pure clay around here. Never have to water it at all.

You need a good mulching mower/blade and you need to deal with it at times when it gets too tall and you can't get to it due to rain, etc., like now in the spring. But really no need to ever bag anything for pickup. You can make a compost bin and deal with excess that way if you need to.

but there is one Courthouse in Fairfax and very few dumps: there are many people who don't own a truck and aren't close to a dump
