It has always been the mantra of the conservative elites that anything that smacks of manual labor is beneath them, what mattered was to get into the right schools and make the right connections, and that physical labor was for schmucks. Trump ran as a republican because they were the closest to his "America First" libertarian platform. He'd have run as a democrat 25 years ago.

The willingness to continue in the same general trajectory has nothing to do with a blind belief that the orthodox leaders on both sides are correct. It is rather from an understanding that even though the country chose the wrong path, turning the clock back to 1950 and starting over is not a valid alternative. The world is a different place now than it was then. The U.S. isn't the same country. The population demographics have changed, and the U.S. economy has over the past 70 years evolved to reflect this.

If Trump actually cared about what was best for the American worker, why hasn't he applied that same standard to his own businesses. His companies have over the years hired illegals or has used outside companies that hired illegals. His companies have applied to bring in foreigners to work for them. The law didn't force him to do this. He chose to let it happen because it was what was best for Trump, not what was best for the American worker.
