Everyone at work seems dumber than in the 90s

I grew up in Fairfax and started working at age 21 in the mid nineties. Back then everyone seemed not just 'soft skill' smart in terms of spelling, grammar, recognition of process mistakes etc., but also smarter in 'the business' having a very solid foundation of base level engineering concepts and terminology.

Nowadays, the people in my business just seem fucking stupid all around. My colleague just replied twice to the same email and wrote the same response twice. Almost as if there were two of him. What the fuck is wrong with this guy? He's a good guy and all, but geez. That's just today and there are many more instances from other people too. We're all supposed to ignore it and not point it out for fear of hurting people's feelings but I've had enough of this shit.

If your business is like my business, your colleague has so much fucking work on his plate, that he simply forgot that he sent out the first email. I do that shit all the time because I have five times more work than I should. Also, in the 90's, you didn't have to respond to hundreds of senseless emails a day.

Maybe you should look up what soft skills are. Spelling and grammar are both hard skills.

OK thanks for the non-cynical reasoning that I would hope to strive for. Instead I just find myself having less patience for people anymore. I feel like I'm doing everything I can to not make any mistakes and it feels like other people aren't and don't care either way. I was never a perfectionist but ugh the mediocrity is definitely present.

Maybe for your line of work. In my line of work, hard skills are the money makers. Soft (hence 'easy') skills are essentially human communications i.e. spelling, grammar, punctuation etc.
