Leftism and Pessimism

Has anyone else here gotten far more pessimistic after going in to the left? The two hardest things for me are looking at the destruction of the USSR (I'm Russian) and the way bourgeois propaganda has taken hold of so many people. I can understand the horrors of the capitalist system, it's all profitable and it is done for that reason. But when I see a fellow middling University student tell me she's better than her friends because she will become rich and famous, I can't help but die a little inside, because I know and I have seen many people with similar petty bourgeois aspirations. I always remember the writings of the narodnik Glrb Uspenskiy who wrote of the naive peasantry who thought that one day the Tsar would see their plight and come to help them.
This all has even caused me to abandon any serious sectarianism, because even a Bernie socdem is more class concious than most, and anarchists are on par with Marxists. That isn't to say I'll agree, I'm just tired of pointless debate.
I'm not saying I'm more depressed, but a lot more cynical and only seeing financial interests all around me. Any left-anons having the same experience?

Only cause socialism was already very dominant when nazis came to power. Nazis even have to adopt socialist rhetoric to obtain any relevance. The existence of USSR was also a huge factor in stopping nazis and springing subsequent communist countries. Also, what makes you think people won’t just go with it? Why do you think they would ‘resist’?
