STAFFORD, Va. (WUSA9) -- The Stafford County Sheriff's Office is searching for two men who posed as power company employees in Stafford, Va. and scammed an elderly woman.
Authorities said the incident happened on Monday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m. Deputies were told that the two men pretended to be from a power company and told the woman that her lights needed to be checked.
According to authorities, the woman walked around checking her lights with the men. She was told to go down to the basement with one of the men, while the other man remained upstairs. The man in the basement then left the victim and when she went back upstairs, authorities said both of the suspects were gone.
The victim made sure nothing was missing from her house and realized cash had been stolen.
The suspects are being described as two men, both possibly Hispanic, and between the ages of 25 and 30. At the time of the incident they were both wearing khaki pants, authorities said.
Authorities have not been able to find the suspects.
If you have any information, please contact the Stafford County Sheriff's Office at 540-658-4400.
Authorities want to remind residents to not open the door unless you know the visitor. Also, authorities say to request to see identification or a badge with credentials if an individual claims to be from a power company.
