A woman living in the 200 block of Ayr Hill Avenue, N.E., told Vienna police on June 17 at 10 a.m. that her elderly mother had received a telephone call from a person claiming that her nephew had been arrested and was being held in a Mexican prison. The caller instructed the woman’s mother to send an undisclosed amount of money via Western Union.

Police responded and informed the mother and her daughter that this had been an attempted scam. Police continue to investigate this case.
