Tysons is already a disaster zone. Businesses are moving out and the wealthy are moving into Loudoun county.

Tyson's is good lesson in "creeping urban blight" - economic restructuring, abandoned buildings and infrastructure, high local unemployment, increased poverty, fragmented families, low overall living standards and low quality of life, political disenfranchisement, crime, elevated levels of pollution.

In ten years Tyson's will be like DC with rat-infested and polluted buildings.

Any tax revenue will go to building new schools to support the massive increase in the student population in Tysons Corner. No way the existing schools can absorb all the new kids.

Not to mention all the other infrastructure a more intense development of Tysons will require. The argument supporters make is that the project will generate more revenue for the County. That may be true of gross revenue. These projects also drive up expenses, so on a net basis it isn't clear the County comes out ahead.

Equally important, projects like those in Tysons drive spending priorities. The needs of other parts of the County are already being deferred so the Fairfax can continue to feed the Silver Line corridor.
