The whole impeachment thing is not about taking Trump down. He is doing a good enough job of that on his own. Besides, conviction in the senate is unlikely, given the current makeup.
Which brings me to the real purpose of impeachment. Control of Congress. Specifically, making Republicans running in 2020 answer why they support political candidates using the authority of the US government to obtain foreign assistance against a political opponent. Memory serves, they didn't much like the practice when Hillary was alleged to have engaged in it.
If Trump gets off, that question should be asked of these Republicans (and all other Republican political candidates, for whatever office) over and over and over again. The answers they give should tell America every thing it needs to know.
Dems win the middle, they win the election.
