Fairfax Co. cop suspended for alerting feds of immigrant's traffic stop to return to duty
by WJLA Thursday, October 3rd 2019
FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (WJLA) — A Fairfax County Police officer will return to full duty after being suspended for a policy violation for alerting federal immigration authorities he was detaining a driver who missed his deportation hearing.
Chief Edwin C. Rossler Jr. says the officer will return to full duty on Friday.
Rossler released a statement Wednesday on the officer returning to duty:
After receiving an update from our Internal Affairs Bureau, I have concurred with the procedural policy recommendation to return the officer involved in the Sept. 21 event to full duty on Friday. We have one of the best police forces in the U.S. and I have confidence that our officer will represent us well throughout his career. Our internal administrative investigation continues as prescribed by policy.

The officer temporarily detained the person during a Sept. 21 traffic accident. Police say the individual didn't have a driver's license after finding out he was wanted by ICE.
ICE later released the driver and the officer involved was suspended while an investigation was conducted.
