There is nothing in the 2nd Amendment which guarantees that every American citizen has the right to own whatever weapon he wants and to take it wherever he pleases. (1) London has proven that violence will still take place when guns are taken away from everybody. London is more violent that New York City.

(2) A violent person can always find substitute weapons. Knives, machetes, garden tools, IEDs, poisons, and many other options are available.

(3) The one common thread in 90% of mass shooters is very little to no male involvement in their lives as children. That problem needs to be addressed. Contrary to today's social gospel, the facts demonstrate that single parent households do have adverse social consequences.

(4) Legal gun owners in the US own over 300 millions guns and over a billion rounds of ammo:

(a) If every legal gun owners was a threat, we'd all be dead.

(b) The percentage of guns misused is so tiny as to be a statistical abberation.

We lose nearly 40,000 people every year to gun violence. More than 100,000 annually suffer painful, disfiguring, and expensive injuries due to guns. The worst natural disasters come nowhere near exacting such a toll.

So the 40,000 lost and 100,000 injured to "gun violence" could just as easily be lost to other methods; for your argument to hold you have to show that taking away guns would eliminate the toll. But that is impossible to do because the human, the motivation, and the dedication remain while availability of substitutes is high.

As an example, while nearly 30,000 of the deaths are suicides, many thousands of suicides due to other means occur. Take away the gun, and you'd simply have 30,000 deaths due to other means.

To treat the problem, treat the person. Outlawing the specific tool is senseless.
