I haven't been here in 25 years and wouldn't have come back except in law health issues led to delayed and rushed vacation plans. No alcohol anywhere in public, strictly enforced. All I want to do is pound beers while my kids play at the beach and now I have to run back to the hotel each round. Plus it's white trash Maryland city, but I knew that coming in.

We gave up on OC years ago. Kids are grown now and we like
Assateague a lot better. No boardwalk and no drinking in public.
Traffic is very light and you can rent motorbikes. Best of all,
no carloads of screaming teenagers and cops enforce the laws.
I can drink all the beer I want in the cottage and there are
some with their own piers.

I like Ocean City for a couple of weekends every summer, I like the energy. If you're not a drunken jackass, you can casually drink on the beach by bringing beers in a cooler and quietly pouring beers into a cup. No way I would go there for my actual vacation, though.

JI have been to Colonial Beach. A friend works at Dahlgren and lives there. Its a quaint little town. It isn't a beach town though. Just a town with a beach. I doubt you could find a trailer home within the town limits. Plenty of golf carts though.
